Racism at cal poly?

The school is almost 70% white kids from upper middle class families. Ive experienced too much racism in high school and always imagined college as a place with mature and educated young people. Is there a lot of racism at cal poly? I’m middle eastern so you can imagine what I hear at high school.

Hi stressfulness. I can answer this question with authority. First, the school is 64% white. Yet inside of that there is a lot of diversity. There is also another side of the school that is 36% minority and that is a big chunk of the school’s population.

We are a multilingual, Asian mixed race family with dual citizenship with Japan and the US. Our son applied as one of the 4% that identify themselves as mixed race. Our son has experienced zero racism and nothing but acceptance at the school.

I am sure that you will experience the same. Cal Poly is politically neutral with few extremes for either the right or the left. Most kids are open and caring and your race should not be an issue. If you still feel uncomfortable, than Cal Poly Pomona has a lot more diversity as it is near LA. But SLO is the better program.

@OsakaDad wow great answer. Thanks!

I have been here four years and never experienced nor witnessed a single instance of racism. Sure, things have happened at the school, but I’ve never met anyone who wasn’t friendly to someone else because of race. Everyone I’ve met has been quite accepting.
