Cal Poly Pomona School of Engineering

Will be applying as a new student for a chemical engineering degree within then next year. Does the School of Engineering have higher standards for SAT scores than the overall college average (around 1100 combined) as well as higher standards for GPA?

Since all majors in the College of Engineering are impacted, then yes the standards will be higher.

Cal Poly Pomona admits by eligibility index and major.

Eligibility index is a calculation based on your CSU capped weighted GPA and SAT or ACT test scores. Unfortunately, CPP does list their EI cutoffs by major so there is no way to determine how competitive you will be other than comparing your EI to last year’s Freshman admit averages.

So for 2019, the average CSU GPA was 3.83, average SAT was 1225 and average ACT was 26. Reference is here: https://www2.calstate.edu/attend/counselor-resources/Documents/freshmen-2019-admission-impaction-chart.pdf

Not sure where you got the 1110 SAT average???

So a minimum target EI for SAT would be (3.83 x 800) + (1225)= 4289

For the ACT the EI target would be (3.83 x 200) + (26 x10)= 1026

The more impacted the major, the higher the EI required for admission. Local applicants within the service area do get priority but no guarantees on impacted majors.
