@devonlacy Are you OOS?
devonlacy is OOS. safe to assume until someone says they are in-state that all acceptances are OOS
Just got accepted into Cal Poly as a Economics Major
1300 SAT
3.71 UW GPA
Lots of Extra-Circulars
I’m a OOS. It will be updated on CP portal under the student center. It was hidden pretty well for me so look closely.
What is a good MCA for business major applicant ?
@luckyme323 Isn’t it under the app status tab of the student center?
Yeah it is @winroo
What does it say for u?
@dankiel Only one plan in CV still has 4 person apartments, no one can be sure of getting a 4 person apartment (unless in a special program), just as no one can be sure to get a double in the dorms. Last year they had a very low yield so housing was originally expecting 500 more students so there were a lot of extra spaces. If Cal Poly over accepts this year (they tend to do that after a low yield year) every additional student will mean a change from a double dorm room to a triple, or a single apartment room to a double. Regarding the sizes of the rooms I think most students actually getting in at Cal Poly can figure out the sizes of the rooms. Just be aware some of the new photos appear to use a wide angle lense so look a bit bigger than they really are, but there are plenty of student photos and videos available throughout the web and Cal Poly used to have some real pictures on their site but it has recently been changed.
In my opinion your gushing about CV is not the norm. You love it but many don’t. You made an extremely strong statement about the apartments being the best, I feel a couple of sentences disagreeing isn’t out of line? Here is a thread from Reddit regarding Cerro Vista: https://www.reddit.com/r/CalPoly/comments/4c38al/how_are_the_cerro_vista_apartments_for_freshman/ easy to search for other threads on housing to get a better feel for the options.
Since PCV is likely no longer an option for freshmen, just as Cerro Vista will no longer be an option in 2018 I will not mention any more about PCV. I will simply recommend students read other student reviews of the dorms and living options, there are many blogs, Mustang News articles, Reddit threads covering this subject.
@czs1994 Very good information. Especially that Reddit thread. In terms of my personal preferences/objectively speaking I still believe that Cerro is the best because it has many more perks than the dorms. Also, everyone who requested a 4 person in Cerro got it this year (at least from what I know.) Which would also make sense because as I said, they even had to put people who applied for the Towers into 4-person Cerro rooms. But, I do agree that to a LOT of people the “dorm” experience is super important to them. This is the main reason that people prefer living in the Towers or the Redbricks. I will also stick to my statement about the Redbricks. People (at least in my year) really do not like the Redbricks. I wholeheartedly agree that everyone should do their own research, but I just wanted to give my opinion and experience since I am currently experiencing what next year’s class will be experiencing this Fall. And I would really suggest a single in Cerro or a double in the Towers. (If possible)
Will cal poly continue to release acceptances over the weekend?
It might be a good idea to start a separate thread for housing. My D was in Muir (red brick) and loved it. She decided not to rush because she was having such a great time with her floormates (she joined a sorority her soph year). She felt that it was very social, without quite as much partying as in the towers. She would not have been happy in a single. Her friends who were in the towers loved where they were too. Her friends who lived in PCV and CV loved where they were too. You get the idea.
When do you think they will release decisions today?
I agree about having a separate housing thread, but just a quick comment…My son is a freshman in red bricks and absolutely loves it! Would not want to be anywhere else. Next year, as a Sophomore, he will be in PCV.
I am an OOS comp sci applicant… if I was accepted would my portal have already been updated? Or do decisions come out in waves? Thanks
Yes, they come out in waves. what are your stats btw? @17student99
are they going in waves by major or waves by state?
@cmkonnor I don’t know for sure. But it’s very unlikely it’s waves by state. They don’t admit by state. All out of state students are bit in one big bucket & compared against each other.
lovely… thank you!
@hms2017 what are your stats? i applied for same major but in state
@Dankiel I respect your opinion. I have been listening to students and parents for about 6 years from Cal Poly and know that students have very strong opinions on which housing they like and dislike. No one is right or wrong, it is a matter of what works for you. For the record, even the Reddit thread had people who requested singles in Cerro and got doubles. I also know of students who requested gender specific who got gender neutral (they were able to change after some period of time). Generally anyone requesting an apartment got one. Whether that will change without PCV I can’t opine. Over the years students who wish to be more social, sometimes meaning partying, chose the towers, while those not interested chose the redbricks. Last year Cal Poly did away with some of the themes that were more social and created more “serious” themes such as academic, substance free, social justice & inclusion, etc., anecdotally there have been more complaints of drinking in the redbricks (drinking is rampant at all colleges, CP is no exception), but they remain very popular and I believe are still the hardest to get as a first choice. It is very important that students pay their deposit and send in their housing choice as soon as possible. They can add a roommate or change their selection later (provided rules don’t change). We will have no idea how large the incoming class will be until late in the summer when block scheduling is finished as Cal Poly has not released the information as many other colleges do after May 1st. Red Bricks hold the most students, then the Towers, then the apartments, then N. Mountain. In the past you could choose any Red Brick you wanted in spite of the college association, I do not know if that is still true, but I hope so. The housing Administration has changed 3 or 4 times in the last 5 years, so one never knows for sure.
