D got rejected from Cal Poly but accepted to Berkeley! Also got in to UCSB, UCSC, USF. Really sad that Cal Poly is just about #'s. Not sure where she is going to end up but wish she would have had Cal Poly as an option. They really need to revamp their admissions process because they are losing great kids!

The irony, I wished I had been accepted to UC Berkeley, but got into Cal poly

Actually, I wish the UCs would be more about the numbers and less of a subjective “holistic” approach. How holistic can an admissions officer be with such a limited application? I like Cal Poly’s more objective approach to admissions, that allows a high school student to somewhat clearly see what they need to do to have a good chance at being admitted to the school. So, I feel the UCs need to revamp their admissions process because they are losing great kids.

Congratulations to your D on acceptance into Berkeley and the other fine schools! She has some great choices from which to decide.

name standard

UCB Upper 1%
UCLA Upper 2~3%
Cal Poly Upper 4~5%
UCSD Upper 4~5%
UCSB Upper 7~8%
UCD Upper 7~8%
UCI Upper 10~12%
Univ of Washington Upper 10~12%

I think so like Upper resource.
UC Berkeley has very high standard and I think Cal Poly is 2nd followed by Berkeley.
But after 2~3 years the ranking between two univs might change. I’m not sure.

Same thing happened to one of my daughter’s classmates. Accepted at both Berkeley and UCLA, but not Cal Poly. Was looking at Aerospace Engineering at Cal Poly. Impacted majors have a lot to do with the acceptance/rejection of kids.
