Hello… so I’ve applied for cal poly pomona and I know this is in the wrong thread but I thought I’d ask anyway…
I have a 3.82 transfer GPA, not in their local area but a CA resident, non impacted major, and will have only 8 out of 19 pre-req courses done for my major by fall if I get accepted to CPP (just going by assist.org, idk if some or all are expected to be done upon transfer). I don’t know if SLO is the same way, but for my major there’s many courses that are either only available at CPP or are so obscure that it has no articulation (like “accounting for dietetics” or something) Do you think they take the exclusivity/limited resources of the applicant’s CCs into consideration? Or do they mostly just look at the numbers at face value?
Term applied for: Fall 2016
Major: Art & Design emphasis in Graphic Design
GPA: 3.54
Transferring from Pasadena City College (Los Angeles Area)
Will complete all IGETC courses after Fall 2015 (this semester) and will finish basic design courses by end of Spring 2016 with a total of exactly 60 units.
With only 4% of transfer students who submit an application being accepted I am very nervous on being admitted. It is very impacted and therefore difficult to get into. It is my top choice school.
In-State (San Diego)
Major: Psychology
IGETC: completed
Major Prep: Completed
GPA: 3.92
EC’s: I am a research assistant in a cognitive science lab at UCSD (I recommend reaching out to faculty at a UC or CSU school, if you show your a passionate they consider taking on community college students,) I am the president of Psi Beta (national honors society in psychology,) I started the Hart (Healing Art) project which won Psi Beta the national community service award from the National Psi Beta council this past year, I developed and run a preschool within an orphanage in Tijuana Mexico, I am an intern for an non-profit called Circles 4 Change that does restorative practices and trauma informed care with youth who are incarcerated. Last year I was the only student at my college to work in the psychology department doing marketing and events for the Institute for Human Development, I currently work for the county as a mental health worker in a psychiatric hospital, I developed and about to launch a marketing campaign at my community college by way of student blogging on the campus website, Stop the Hate train the trainer training which I was sponsored to do by my college president, I also conducted my first solo psychological research study last year which I am hoping to present at the WPA conference and to submit to have published.
I have 2 B’s and 1 W on my academic record. Application is submitted… the waiting is terrible.
Anybody hear back from Cal Poly yet? I applied on the 2nd of Oct and I haven’t gotten the usual portal sign-in email that I got a week later from the other cal states.
IN-STATE.
MAJOR: Computer Science
IGETC: Complete this fall.
CSU GE: Completed.
Major Prep: Missing 2 “Support” courses
GPA: ~3.50 by the end of this semester with upward trend
EC: officer at CS club, works part time
Out of State: Colorado (coming from Colorado State University)
Major: Child Development
IGETC: Almost all will be completed by the end of my spring 2016 semester (will just have a few left like fine arts, american exposition, and an upper division elective)
Major Prep: I have completed all of the required and desired courses for the child development major that they asked for before applying.
GPA: 3. 86
EC’s: The application only asked how much you work and do extracurricular/volunteer work per week and if it was related to the major of choice and my answer was 10 hours per week for both and yes it’s related. I wish they would have asked for more than this! I’ve volunteered abroad, am a part of Chi Omega that partners with Make A Wish foundation and run a lot of the philanthropy events, was awarded the President’s Volunteer Service award this past year, etc.
I submitted mine october 1st and got an email back about a week or a week and a half later saying that it had been uploaded to the My cal poly portal @rashomon369
Hey @ntweeter I was thinking maybe we can use this thread or start another for transfers that do end up getting accepted looking for a roommate. I know i personally will be if i do get accepted and I’m not sure how to go about it! Let me know what you think! I also couldn’t tell who was a girl on here yet by there username so i just tagged you haha
@mandastrawberry
I think that’s an awesome idea!! But it might be in everyone’s best interest to hold off on actually creating a thread for that until the acceptance notifications start rolling out. It would be taunting us every time we looked at the forum topics… (“Oh I hope I get in so I can post on that board and find my future roomie!”) You know what I mean?
Totally agreed! I’ve just done some searching around and there isn’t much out there for transfer students looking for roommates not on campus at cal poly haha so i think eventually it will be a good thing to make! @ntweeter
I am curious, there is a lot of talk about EC’s, yet such a small portion of the application is devoted to it, are they even considered in the process?

@jay956 cal poly cares more about ec’s than most csu’s which isnwhy they have a supplemental page. While unfortunately there are no personal statements for csu applications, there was prompt for it in the eops application and recomendation letters and will be again when scholarship applications are due. Sadly, the soecific of ec’s do not play a role in cau admission decisions
@rainrain615 What do you mean by supplemental forms? If you’re talking about the grade updates for this last semester/quarter, cal poly doesn’t do that. If you’re accepted, then they ask you for official transcripts. Otherwise, the grades you entered on the app are the only grades they refer to.
Location: Yucaipa CA (near San Bernardino)
Major: Architecture and Env. Design
IGETC: Completed
Major Prep: completed?
GPA: 4.00
EC: not much, some volunteerism/special projects
Also applied to CP Pomona
Just one nagging question. How does the portfolio affect acceptance into the program? I’ve done literally all that I can with completing my IGETC and keeping a perfect GPA. However, I’m limited to only two arch. design classes in my area and they’re okay at best (hence the question mark). My portfolio is not going to be particularly large or have a broad variety of architectural material. What I do have is to the best of my abilities but it still doesn’t seem like enough to me. I guess I don’t know what I’m up against in regards to other applicants, but will a seemingly sparse portfolio severely harm my chances?
