Cal Poly SLO or SDSU?? Please help!!

Hi, I have been accepted to both Cal Poly SLO and San Diego State. I was accepted into the SDSU honors program, which would be super beneficial in such a big school. But, I also got offered $2000 a year to go to Cal Poly. I got accepted into both schools for Biology. Which should I go to?? I'm out of state, so I don't have any family to worry about. I want to apply to the Cal Poly Honors Program, but you have to first submit your SIR then you can apply. I visited both schools and I liked them pretty equal, but the Cal Poly people seemed a little more friendly, but there seemed to be less going on there. But, I could be way wrong.

So the bottom line is, which school do you recommend?

does Cal Poly SLO rank higher?

I have heard generally that Cal Poly is viewed more as a UC, but I really don’t know.

As a Cal State resident and College Club president that visited Cal Poly ad heard a lot about SDSU, Cal Poly SLO is looked as a lot better of a school, academically wise, and SDSU is normally seen as a party school, but definitely not as highly ranked.

I think Cal Poly is considered a better school that San Diego State. My son chose Cal Poly over several of the mid-tier UCs (but mostly because he just liked Cal Poly the best). San Diego State does have a reputation for being a party school, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get a good education there, particularly if you would be in the Honors program. SDSU probably does have a more lively social life, because its a bigger school, and its in an urban area, while San Luis Obispo is sort of in the middle of nowhere. However, my son never complains about a lack of things to do.

I wouldn’t go to a Cal State school if I was you. If you are out of state and paying out of state tuition, you will be wasting lots of money. We live in California and I wouldn’t send my kids to a state school right now as a freshman. The chances of getting out in 4 years is tough as classes are sooooooooooo much tougher to get. Most likely it will take you a minimum of 5 years and that is crazy if you are paying out of state. There are so many better schools out there than these two. Where else did you get in?

Cal Poly SLO is a great school. They provide an incrediable undergraduate experience and SLO is a great place to live…

Cal Poly, by far. San Diego State would probably be too large for me, but that’s personal taste. However, I’m pretty sure Cal Poly has a much better science program than SD, but I’m only familiar with Cal Poly.

Great thanks! I only applied to one other college, Fresno state, as a back up school, just on the off chance I didn’t get into San Diego or Cal Poly. I’m still deciding but your thoughts have helped me a lot!!

When it comes to diversity SDSU is way ahead of other campuses. If you are interested in study abroad, you should consider SDSU.
