Things are going to get a bit more competitive for getting accepted to Cal Poly…

Yes, competitive and impacted. But the price is right for in-state applicants.
Competitive and impacted mean the same thing. Impacted, by definition, means the major gets more applications than they have spots for, making it…competitive. Every single major at Cal Poly is impacted, some FAR more than others.
The more I see stuff like this, the more I am convinced that my daughter is going to Pomona. Even so, I’m glad she applied to SLO, because you just never know. fingers crossed
@Mom2Engineers, I remember asking my son, now a masters candidate at CP, if he thought it was a perfect fit during Parent’s Weekend first year. His response was enlightening…“I like it here a lot, but I’m sure I would have been fine at any of the schools I applied to.” It really is about what they do, more than where they go. Your daughter will certainly shine no matter where she lands.
Thanks, Eyemgh. I know that too, but she feels (and I do too) that SLO is a better fit for her. Still, the most important thing to her is the ‘learn by doing’ philosophy and all of the hands on work/labs, and she will definitely get that at Pomona. It’s certainly not a bad place for her to end up. But SLO is her reach school and she’s still hoping for it, while at the same time understanding the likelihood of her chances.
