What are my chances of getting into these 3 schools applying for Business? Ive only taken the ACT and SAT once so I don't know if I should take them again.

Stats
Cal State GPA (10th and 11th): 3.6
SAT: 1680(1180 Math and Reading)
ACT: 23

Played 3 years varsity golf and 3 years varsity basketball
100 hours community service
Graduating a semester early while working full time
Brother graduated from Cal Poly SLO, (does this help?)
Taken 4 semesters of AP, 2 of CP, and 8 semesters of honors

I know my chances of getting into SLO are low but I think I'll be good for the other 2... any help would be greatly appreciated

your chances are extremely different if you live within the service areas of any of these three schools. if you do then you should get accepted unless the major is impacted. if you don’t then it will be much more difficult. you have picked three of the most selective schools within the 23 campus system.

Your major is a key determinant, along with your GPA. If it were engineering at SLO with that GPA, you could assume you would not make it. For SDSU, you probably have a good chance.

I know from friends applying to SDSU that it is very difficult to be admitted if you are not from the SD area. My friend had a 4.0 and had slightly higher SAT/ACT and did not get in. It is still worth a try but make sure you apply to safeties.

For Fall 2011 admittance, Cal Poly Business Freshmen profile is the following:

College of Business

applied: 4,600

accepted: 1,823

Acceptance %: 39.6%
Avg. GPA: 3.89
Avg. ACT: 29
Avg SAT: 1291 out of 1600 (verbal + CR only)

Unlike most of the CSUs, Cal Poly SLO gives only Minor consideration for local service area applicants. Majority of its student hailed from San Francisco and LA area. The service area issue will only come into play if you are borderline.

Sorry to say, given you are below average on all the academic metrics, the probability of acceptance is against you. But give it a try regardless.

mostly but not entirely true ickglue…SLO is the most selective CSU to be sure, but it still must adhere to the chancellor’s policy of providing entrance to service area applicants. the way the elites such as SLO, pomona, san diego and long beach slide around this is by impacting programs to keep these students out. and of course unlike the other elites SLO is not located in an urban area with dozens of high schools nearby.

Actually Cal Poly SLO was one of the few CSUs that was given the mandate from the chancellor office to recruit state wide and I think now might even be national wide (due to the budget crisis).

There is an article from Cal Poly’s university newspaper that was posted somewhere in CC a while back that talked about this.

correct, both cal poly campuses along with san diego and long beach recruit statewide and perhaps one or two others too. but SLO still must lower standards somewhat for those high school seniors, and cuesta CC by extension, because they fall within the service area.
