Cal Poly to Santa Barbara

Hey guys, im currently a student athlete at Cal Poly aand i was wondering what my chances were of transfering to UCSB next year. Is it possible?

My GPA is around 2.9 and I'm a solid athlete

its gonna depend on your major, but if you have a solid spring, and get good grades in the fall you could do it. You are gonna need to get your GPA up to a 3.2 and get TAG for your major. It is tough for someone who is already at a four year to transfer to another, because by law schools will pick students from community colleges before they pick from 4 years.

Unfortunately you can’t TAG from a four year. The school is extremely impacted and you’re going to need to improve your GPA unless you are recruited for athletics. Best of luck!

Just wondering, why do you want to transfer from Cal Poly to UCSB? Reason I’m asking is that my S is admitted to both and will need to decide in the next month.

Which Cal Poly are we talking about, Pomona or SLO? If it is Pomona it will be difficult since UCs rarely accept transfers from CSUs. If you are at Cal Poly SLO why would you want to transfer to UCSB since you are already at the more highly regarded school?

Can you tell me why is Cal Poly SLO considered the better school than UCSB?

^ Cal Poly SLO and Pomona are known for hands on experience, especially in their engineering fields. They’re both very competitive and hard to get into.

IMO, UCSB is not better than Cal Poly SLO or Pomona only in engineering. As far as prestige, I guess you could argue that UCSB is better because of its “UC” acronym.

Also, about 400-600 employers seek for engineering graduates at Cal Poly every year, so that should be a plus.

Don’t be fooled that a state school isn’t better than a UC.
