Cal Rental Approval before acceptance...mean anything?

It's by department.

Now that no one else has been able to get e-mail #2, do you guys think that Berkeley Admissions may have caught on and told the Housing Dept not to admit any transfer students for the time being?

I mean c'mon, this is like the 2nd biggest thread right now with nearly 4k views already.

Or they haven't entered another batch into the system because it isn't ready. I'm sure they haven't even made it through half of them yet.

I was also thinking that they blocked it because nobody received either the verification or denyal after email #1. I'm so ready to call them and see how they progressed with decisions, haha :)

Its weird for me to think that some of us have already been admitted or denied.

Do it, then clue us in.

wait... so is the consensus that they've totally stopped sending email #2 to new applicants? I applied ten minutes ago and got email #1 as an automatic response... so I hope that if I don't get #2 it's not because i didn't get in. Just hoping this whole theory's not dead in the water.

It's not. No one really has anything substantive to say at this point.

Three of us received email 2, all with high stats and communal involvement --which could possibly denote Regents. What I am most inclined to believe at this point is that those who have received the approval are candidates for the Regents scholarship; meaning, the applications being considered for Regents by the financial aid office (I am guessing they are the department which handles the scholarship, as is with UCLA) have already been accepted/information logged into the system.

This is, of course, all speculative atm, though.

Hubris was the downfall of many a tragic hero

At least I'm not doubly ignorant, right, NoPlace?

I just thought it was a cool thing to say, I like the word "hubris" and I don't get a chance to use it often in a relevant situation. Sorry, you were sort of the victim of my own self-indulgence.

However, I like this thread and in the beginning the theory had some credence. Naturally, assuming the regent scholarship recepients have been already offered admissions is a logical conclusion. I don't believe Berkeley procastinates all their decisions until the 30th, so I'm sure a fair amount have already been admitted. Whether or not they've caught on to this potential loop whole is anyone's guess.

Also, your comment on not being "doubly ignorant" has escaped my understanding. Could you please elaborate.

Just to clarify - no regents here - I'm just a typical UC to UC transfer with slightly above average GPA, average ECs.

I'm not surprised at all that Ektaylor and Changusmc got the second e-mail - they're UCLA regents.

I'm just confused as to why I got the e-mail when so many others didn't... computer glitch?

okay, so while i've been putting off my o-chem homework, i've managed to work some numbers for this thread. this is what i came up with based off of all those who have posted on this thread:

Total number of calrental applicants: 16
Number of applicants who have received the second email: 3 (about 19%)
Number of dummy accounts created and only received the first email: 3
Time I've wasted on this forum: priceless

So based off the fact that cal admits roughly 33% of transfers and there is still about three weeks left until they need to make decisions, our theory seems like it could still be on track. We just need more people to apply to calrentals and see if this really means anything - so if you've applied and haven't posted, please do!

wow you guys are obsessed with this car rental stuff

Let's make a graph.

yeah, i concur, this i've never been part of a forum before in my life and this is just too addictive, i got to get my life together

The concept of double ignorance explains the mental state of an individual who does not know that he does not know that which cannot be known. It has to do with the epistemological concerns of Socratic, and to and extent, Platonic philosophy. As I made note of, there is noway I can insist, without doubt, that what I say is correct, but instead must remain with an understanding of my ignorance and the limits to what I can know, thus being singly ignorant.

What brought this up, for me, was your mention of hubris; as all the Greek heroes who met an end, due in large to their hubris, were all doubly ignorant. Their respective refusal to question their unwaivering pride is a great example of double ignorance, as they cannot truly question their own existence without allowing for the possibility that they do not know themselves as they truly exist.

Wow, that could have been more wordy if I tried -- I'm half watching The Office, so w/e.

I'd rather make babies, since we could produce the most potent arguing collegeboard forum posters on the face of this earth.

Hm, an interesting offer.. I mean, it would certainly be a fiery night.

You're annoying RCHANG -"wow you guys are obsessed with this car rental stuff". How many times are you going to pop in and make some stupid comment? Shut up already or better yet stop coming to this board.

I swear people like you are so dim. "I don't agree with what you're saying but rather than stay away I'm going to stop by every few days to let everyone know that I still don't agree." Newsflash- WE DON'T CARE.

Now for everyone else, I'm looking to rent a car know of any good places? haha.
