Cal Rental Approval before acceptance...mean anything?

this Cal rental approval theory is very interesting... i just submitted so let's see how it goes!

Keep us updated, thanks.

Thanks for joining our experiment, Torrancecali.

I just registered here to help out with this interesting theory.

I have been lurking and I signed up for Cal rentals maybe like 5 or 6 days ago. I got #1, not 2 yet.

Brief Stats:

Math Major
GPA: 4.0
ECs: Extensive music related ECs but none related to math (I was once a music major at a jazz conservatory, but now transferring from a CCC)
Pre-reqs: complete

i got my first mail today..!!!!! now gotta wait for the second one!!

I'm starting to have some serious doubts about this theory.

why are you saying that?fijeeboi!

No one has gotten the 2nd email for quite some time.

I just got a email asking for verification.........

verificaton? 1st mail right?

yeah. 1st email....

have any ppl with the 2nd email paid the 20 dollars and received an official calnet ID not just the numerical one.

I would but i dont got a credit card =(

We're half way there, guys. Why not just wait? I'm sure by the time you get your 2nd email, or whatever, decisions will be out.

BUT--I'd still want to know if the theory works or not.

We're two weeks away from decisions and hardly anyone has received email #2. There must be a lot of rejections this year.

hey, i know decisions are only two weeks away, but just out of curiosity, someone who already goes to cal should apply for the calrentals app without any follow up if they get the first email. and if they don't get the second email, we'll know it's all a fluke.

joehanus... I'm not quite sure what you mean. The first email is for them to ask for confirmation of affiliation w/ the school, because of no record. since a registered student is already in their database, there would be no need for them to send out the first email. When I log into Calrentals it has all my information already populated including my birth date, current address, etc.

Nice try though.... =)

luvtoolearn. I didn't get second email so far. Does that mean I get rejected?

not sure because I'm already a registered student so I just went on there to see what would come up and if its any different for the rest of you. This is allot different from the housing theory from last year that we proved true. This year it seems like they cut off ever loose end they could think of like not allowing you to log on using your application ID. At first it seemed like you guys found another possible loose end in the system but now I'm wondering because so few of you received that second email. My guess is that they might have changed how they do the housing verification right after that last person received the second email (I'm too lazy to look back on the thread of who that was).
Anyway, I wouldn't put too much doubt into your acceptance based on the housing situation, its just an interesting way to pass the time while waiting, and your almost done.
Good luck!

luvtoolearn, the thing is that we don't login to Calrentals (since we don't have a CalnetID), but we instead create a new account (<a href="https://calrentals.housing.berkeley.edu/UCBOCH/cfapps/newcomeraccount.cfm?origin=student%5B/url%5D">https://calrentals.housing.berkeley.edu/UCBOCH/cfapps/newcomeraccount.cfm?origin=student</a>) and hope to get the 2nd email from them

EDIT: oops, crossposted w/ you

hmmm, it sounds like you logged in with your calnet id? i was wondering if the calrentals computer system automatically looked up your data when you put in a request as a "newcomer/affiliate." the first email says "we have checked our faxes and emails for verification from you... and do not see anything from you." but it doesn't explicitly state that they've checked their database of students. so they ask for more information in order to verify your account. but the point of our very speculative theory is that calrentals is looking up info about the student without the student sending in any verification. if a already registered cal student puts in a request for a calrental app as a "newcomer/affiliate" and only gets email #2 (which i assumed he/she will), then it provides further support for our theory. and if say the cal student only gets email #1, then we know that this is all just a fluke. well, who knows, i'm just putting off my hw.

edit: ha, crossposted with both of you
