Cal Rental Approval before acceptance...mean anything?

There are two different types of accounts: one registered using a CalNet ID, and the other without CalNet.

hmmm, maybe it has to do with the fact that she created a newcomer account, and since newcomers probably don't have CARS accounts (correct me if I'm wrong), it sets her up with a different account with a newcomer layout giving her a limited amount of options, compared to that of a registered cal student who enters the calrentals app with a calnet id.

joehanus...that's exactly what I was thinking becuase the layout looks the same, it's just that some of my options are missing...the CARS billing system is only for registered students so that makes sense that they didn't include it on the other account. Also I am enrolled for summer classes this year so maybe it is seeing me as a new summer visitor.

Blurry...my screen does not look anything like that because I didn't pay the 20.00, both the accounts give me options to pay for the listing, it's just that one of the accounts allows me to pay via CARS which is a separate link and the new student/affiliate does not have the link for CARS nor does it have the option. Also one account omitted my middle name.

What does CARS stand for?

Campus Accounts Receivable System

Hello,

Please do not interpret any message from Cal Rentals as indicating either a positive or negative decision from UC Berkeley's Office of Admissions.

The Cal Rentals office is part of UCB's Residential and Student Service Programs. We help members of the UC Berkeley community to find offcampus housing by providing online rental listings and a website with comprehensive information about housing options.

Currently registered students can access the rental listings directly by "CalNet Authentication" (they use their campus ID and passphrase to log in). Newly admitted students (usually grad students) sometimes want to see what's available in the community before their CalNet ID has been activated. So we created for them an alternate log-in that we call our "Newcomer/Affiliate" log in. When someone registers as a "Newcomer/Affiliate" we send them an email asking them to document their status at Cal. Usually they fax or email a copy of their admission letterand then we approve their account request and send them a link to an online payment system.

The exception to this process is for summer visitors: during the summer months we grant online access to sublet listings to anyone who asks for it. They just have to say that they are a summer visitor. We make this exception to assist Cal students to find people to sublet their apartments if they have to leave Berkeley for the summer.

Perhaps our office thought changusmc was a summer visitor or approved the request in error.

Best of luck to all of you who were recently admitted or are waiting for a decision! If you want to learn more about your housing options at Cal please see: Living at Cal - Welcome

GO BEARS!

Another one bites the dust

Sigh,

I guess I was right about the "summer visitor" thing.

Oh well, it was exciting while it lasted.

How did calrentals find out about this?

changusmc called them not long after he got verified.

yeah, and i wonder how they found this thread too, maybe the myberkeleyapp officer?

because they are smart...lol,lol... big brother =)

I didn't call. I sent them an email that went unreplied.

hmmm, I don't know if we can trust the noob. I say if we're really going to believe calrentals, we need some proof, preferably in the form of admissions decisions. what do you say calrentals? ha, it's only 9 more days, we can wait. I guess during the dull waiting period, over the past month or so, this conspiracy kept our flames burnin' - so it was good while it lasted.

can anyone confirm who the user 'calrentals' is? With only 1 post, it seems that it could be a troll...unless he's just paraphrasing an answer from a real authority

ha,ha,ha... great job joehanus...now your making this a conspiracy theory thread... that's cool though. I always like a good mystery.

Hello Everyone,

This is a Cal Rentals staff member writing. Everything I said before is true and again, I wish you all good luck!!! I came to Cal long before most of you were born and haven't been able to separate yet.

Can you tell me what the waiting list is like for those one bedroom apartments?

calrentals,
Are those the ones that are opening up in July? My apartment faces the construction and it looks like they are almost done. allot of noise over the past few months, but they are beautiful.

We have many new apartments coming online August 1. If you apply now and meet the eligiblity requirements you will be able to get one.
