By the way, Wada charges you for 10 months so it ends up being about $850 per month. They charge you for the entirety of August even though you move in at the end.

Think about it this way-- if Wada has 4 people per apartment each paying $850 per month, that would be equivalent to paying a total of $3,400 per month total if it was a regular apartment.

Just something I've thought about during the course of my stay in Wada.

Ektaylor, yes I'd be enrolled in summer because Haas has mandatory summer classes so my Berkeley experience would start in July already....during Fall and Spring I'd also consider either Wada or Family housing...

This theory seems to have some kind of substance. I only received email #1 requesting verification. People that were approved only received email #2, except for the original poster because he wasn't accepted at the time he sent in his request. When he got accepted, they sent him the email saying he was approved. So, for those of us that have only received email #1, if we end up receiving email #2 it could mean that we are accepted. If we don't....that could mean that we got REJECTED. Interesting theory here.

yes, if this theory is in fact correct, we've managed to turn Berkeley's method of notification from releasing all decisions on a specific date in to a sort of psuedo-rolling basis decision process. I guess this theory will seem more and more true if those of us who have received email #1 start to receive email #2. What would be even more promising is if several of us receive email #2 on a specific date from now until April 30th, possibly indicating a batch of decisions being made/entered into the system at once.

What im wondering though, is why would cal rentals spend the time to go back through old requests to verify whether those people have been accepted or not. You would think they would send email #1 if they can't find any affiliation with the school and then it would be up to the person requesting to send in some kind of verification like an acceptance letter. Unless there is some kind of automated system or something.....blah....I dunno.

For whatever reason, I cannot edit my first post. I'd like to compile everyone's stats and edit it on the first post so that everyone could see it. If a mod see's this, could you please assist me?

Unless someone else receives #2 from this point forward, it's also reasonable to make the assumption that the CalRental office was alerted by the large increase in volume of applications since OP posted this thread, thus double-checked with general admissions. And if the representative from UCB on this board caught a whiff of this thread (hard not to), then they could have corrected their mistake and closed the portal already. Which is why people with good to excellent stats above are receiving #1 instead of #2.

Just $0.02 of my further speculation. Carry on.

You do realize that the traffic caused by this board is nowhere near the amount of traffic they see on any other day --it's the rental service for the entire campus, not just newly admitted students.

And the UCB application representative was last active: 04-06-2008 11:19 AM; so I do not think he/she has alerted anyone of the situation.

I think it's just the process of UCB admission; they review and accept the 'sure-thing' pile first, and then move onto the 'maybe' pile (maybe may be too strong a word, not meant to be discouraging, but to describe).

I think it's because they're still going through applications. Quite possibly, if this theory is valid, many of us will receive the 2nd e-mail before the 30th/1st.

I'm not sure. I'm not going to ride on it because if I get rejected... well, at least I'll have basis for appeal, lol.

While we wait for some more interesting updates from others, I am making the best out of my $20 investment by looking at "affordable" apartments near Berkeley.

Anyone looking for a roommate? That is of course if I get in...

I still don't understand why cal rentals would go back through old requests to see if they are admitted and approve them. Wouldn't they just wait for some kind of verification or a new request to be submitted? Any ideas?

I thought I would throw in my stats.

3.85 UC GPA, history major, IGETC and Pre-reqs completed by spring. Not many ec's, but have four years military experience.

Hm, I never really considered renting my first year due to the risk of others dropping/defaulting, thus leaving their share of the lease to be redistributed amongst the other house-mates.

I am guessing the second email is automated to an extent, as well, in the sense that once an applicant is accepted their affiliation with UCB is registered in the campus wide system, which the housing department is connected with; and once the aforementioned is registered, the housing inquiry is approved electronically?

Oops, I forgot that most here are coming from CCs, so as expected, most of you want to live in dorms)

-fijeeboi

I'm a bit worried now that you've posted your stats - you've got a great GPA, military experience (super plus) - I mean you should be a guaranteed admit and yet, you received the e-mail asking to verify you affiliation.

This led me to think that:

1) This theory no longer works
2) Berkeley is actually doing admissions on a rolling basis
3) Someone found out about our little game and has informed CalHousing.

I'm hoping it's #2 and that more people will get their letters at a later time

Sigh, if I get rejected, do you guys think I can at least get my 20 bux back? lol
