My son wants some safety cal state schools for the above programs.
What are his changes at SLO, SDSU, Long Beach, Fullerton, Cal Poly Pomona and which schools have the better programs?
His California GPA is 3.64 on their application, SAT score of 1350, maxi adds classes for SLO so MCA plus 750, and EC plus 50, I think.

SLO, probably not. SDSU, probably. The rest on your list almost certainly. All of the schools on your list are very good so, I’d encourage you to visit the schools witth your son, talk to some existing students and perhaps sit in on a class or two. I think a preference will emerge quickly.
None of the schools listed would be considered safety schools unless local (within local service area) however, SDSU and SLO no longer give local preference.
SLO does not list average CP GPA and SAT scores by major but by College and based on these stats, it will be a Reach school.
Average CP GPA: 4.18
SAT: 1420.
The rest of the CSU’s admit by Eligibility index and major so (3.64x800) + (1350)= 4262.
An EI of 4200+ for SDSU, CSULB and CPP will make him competitive but no guarantees. For example, if you take the average stats for this year’s Freshman class at SDSU, the average EI was 4308.
If he wants a safety, he should consider some of the non-impacted CSU’s for these majors: https://www.calstate.edu/sas/documents/impactedprogramsmatrix.pdf
As a graduate of CPP with a BS in Microbiology and Minor in Chemistry, I was very happy with their programs although this was many years ago.
All these schools will give him a very good education, what is important is for him to find his fit academically/socially and financially.
Apply widely since all California schools continue to become more competitive each year.
