Cal Tech Book Supplement

I'm applying to caltech, but I'm not exactly sure what to put as my three books that have been influential to me. I already have one, that, for me, was just an obvious choice, but I don't know what else to put. The book I already listed is already a bit of a weighty tome (known in some circles as "The Brick" based on its size), and I'm afraid if I put too many large and/or "English class" type books (though for the record, I read this independent from school), I'll look like I'm trying too hard to make myself look smart. In addition, the reasoning I've got is fairly political, and I don't want to put anything else political, so I don't look too one-note political (also, just in case the admissions officer is on the other side of the political spectrum, I don't want them to discriminate on my application)

So, people who have already gotten in, tell me, what types of books should I put as the other two?

Put down the three books that have been most influential to you. Don’t overanalyze it. :)

Well, I ended up putting Les Miserables, by Victor Hugo, All Quiet on the Western Front, by Erich Maria Remarque, and America (the book) by the writers of The Daily Show.

I just wish they offered more space to explain, since the explanations I gave seemed lacking (though I used almost the entire 500 characters allotted)
