Hello! I didn’t see any thread for this year so I started one to see who else got the invite!

Got an invite today as well. Im curious about the selectivity and if it helps with admission .
Likewise… I have read some articles that say 40 people get accepted, and others that say 80, but what I am really interested in is how many got the initial invite
@nomoreinterviews If I may ask, what is your SAT? Are you an URM?
I am also wondering if invites will come out in waves, and maybe this first wave was for the highest scores…
I’m half black half white, so I guess that’s URM. Trust me tho, lol, it’s probably not based on who has the highest sat. Im floundering with a 1480, which is alright but nowhere near caltech worthy. I’m not really considering applying since I’m not a heavy Stem guy and I’ve already been admitted into WOW
@nomoreinterviews Oh okay. Congrats on WOW!
Thanks!
is the link designated to the person it was sent to or just a general link? I’m not invited (probably because I got screwed over by the June SAT) but would still like to apply if I had the chance. Do you guys know if I can find the link anywhere?
@fionalin726 The portal is designated for each person, I believe.
More importantly is that the invite was entirely based on your SAT subsection math score, meaning test scores are clearly a HUGE priority. Everybody I know who was invited got 800 or 790 on the math section, and not leaving a ton of wiggle room for lower scores…
I wish you luck ofc! just maybe this one wouldn’t be worth applying for you since everybody else will have an advantage in the one factor they have placed explicit importance upon?
I had a 710 in math, so I’m not sure why I was saved…
Thank you for this very helpful answer! My SAT math score is on the lower side, so you’re probably right. Guess time to study till I pass out LOL

I submitted my application already. My SAT math score was an 800 and I wish all of you luck (hopefully I may meet some of you)
@Class2023GetsLit I’m pretty sure 20 get in, but 40-80 get an invitation (from the 2015 Facebook group and word of mouth)
@Fibbonachi10 Good luck!
Hmmmm, I wonder what the numbers really are. This blog post from 2016 says that out of 300 that applied, there were 35 admitted.
For 300 to apply, my guess is that maybe 500 get invited? Imagine how many aren’t interested in caltech + don’t have essays ready + are busy over the summer + don’t take the email seriously + etc

@Class2023GetsLit Thanks for the source, I’ll trust the numbers provided there (as hey may have changed the amount of people accepted over time and the # invited that I got seemed fishy)
I didn’t get an invite until the 20th, so maybe they sent invites out in multiple waves? I wish they would release the numbers lol
@thejmarie Congrats on the invite! Are you applying?
I wonder… I got invited on Aug 7th, and a reminder on the 20th to apply. I ended up applying on the 21st after a final edit of my essays.
Thanks! I submitted last minute today, I don’t think my chances are too great though tbh.
@thejmarie good luck! Why do you say that, are you not interested in STEM?
What did you write your essays on / what is your SAT ?
