I’m entertaining the idea of transferring from Berkeley Undeclared L&S to UCSD Bioengineering. However, I have a few questions before I apply.

What are my chances?
GPA: 3.93 (took many courses that satisfy UCSD BioE prerequisites)
I will have finished most of the BioE lower division prerequisites by the time decisions come out in late April.

Do I need to retake the SAT’s?
I got into Bioengineering as a high school senior applicant, should I take it again or am I okay?

Will I be eligible for Regent’s or Chancellor’s scholarship?
This is an important factor in my decision to transfer.

How many units do I need before I can apply for transfer?
I currently have 50 semester units at Berkeley, is that sufficient for transfer application? By the time that decisions come out, I should have 80 semester units.

What are some criteria besides GPA that are used to determine transfer admissions?
I have had 2 summers of internship experience at a pharmaceutical analysis company and around 170 hours of volunteer services.

Thanks in advance.

Bump

Any insights would be appreciated.

Is this a transfer because of disinterest in Berkeley or because of some sort of hardship causing you to have to leave Cal? If it's the latter, there's a chance you may be able to bypass the admissions process.

If it's because you just want to switch schools, you have a very good application. There are no Regents scholarships awarded to transfers, though.

Thanks for the reply, gocheechoo.

I want to transfer for the bioengineering major at UCSD.

Are there any perks awarded to transfer students?

By the way, is bioengineering even open for transfer students? I was under the impression that it's very impacted. Are there any transfer applicants out there who got into the BioE major at UCSD?
I got in as a freshman applicant to the major (not BioE: premedical), does that help?

Yes it's open to transfers. Several of my CCC classmates were accepted for the major this year. I don't think being accepted as a freshman makes a difference, but you are a very strong applicant, so I wouldn't be too worried.

You are still eligible for major and other merit based scholarships.

Perks-wise, you're not entitled to much. There's no transfer housing available right now. They're currently building new transfer dorms, but I don't know when that'll be finished. The Bioengineering major is impacted, but given your statistics, you aren't a longshot. Impacted majors are still doable given good preparation.
