I'm interested in smaller, more discussion-based classes, which I know will be hard to find at both schools, but which of the two would offer more of them in psychology, english, and poli sci? I also want to be able to get to know my professors. Is there a website, apart from the schools', that I can go to that'll give me some more information?

I think English would be better as you describe it at Berkeley, and from what I've heard, the others a wash.

Check liverjournal and myspace for forums where you can ask students (other than here).

turnip,

Neither one is really going to offer you a lot of smaller, discussion-based classes with the profs. But there are some great opportunities that I know exist at UCLA (and probably at Cal as well, so all you Bears out there...don't jump on me, please?)

Many poli sci classes offer honors discussion sections with the professors. These are not the classes (which are still the big lectures) but a supplement. I took two and loved both of them. There are also honors seminar classes, as well as the fiat lux courses for lower divs.

I found that I had no problem getting to know at least two or three professors on a name-basis. Simply drop by office hours here and there, and you'll do fine.
