Well, i got into all the UC’s that I applied to, and I am going for a Econ major and completing prerequisites for Med School. I realize that Berkeley has Haas, but UCLA has the better pre-med studies. Someone also told me that Berkeley, although not know for it, is better than UCLA in Bio in their BCM major. I also have to keep in mind that I have to do volunteer work, ec’s, and other stuff to boost my med school standings. Major dilemma. Thank you.

excuse me, that is MCB, sorry

I was accepted into every UC I applied to. I applied engineering. I didnt' get EECS at Cal because I was afraid to apply EECS cuz I thought I would get denied, so I applied MSE (close enough to EECS). Anyways, if you're considering program, Berkeley by FAR has the best program. If you're talking science, a school with a top notch engineering program, a top notch chemistry program and a national lab here will definitely be the one to go. Look at our faculty. Compare it to UCLA's faculty. The quality is much higher.

UCLA's med school? It's pretty good I have to admit. People like to say Cal doesn't have a med school. I guess that's TECHNICALLY true. BUT, let's remember that UCSF was part of Cal until they spun it off. UCSF is what Rank 6 or something? Definitely far ahead of UCLA med school.

Bottom line. If you're comparing program quality, it's Cal. As for social life, parties, sports, you can get them all at either school.

Oh, and for Haas, I don't really recommend undergrad biz. In my opinion, people who do undergraduate business are incompetent. The people who succeed are those who know economics, finance, etc. Thats the science of money. Business management. Anyone can do that.. For Econ, UCLA's pretty good, but I think our econ program is damn good here.

Cal and UCLA are going to be about the same for a pre-med.

Lol qwerasdf, you're trying to say UCSF is a reflection of Cal. You're a funny one, that's like saying all the UC's are a reflection of Cal just because Cal came first.

Anyways, to the OP, I myself am trying to decide premed between Cal, UCLA, and UCSD. Supposedly UCSD is ranked number 3 for bioengineering, but is less socially active(I'm not sure about the social part but that's just what I've heard so don't quote me on that).
UCLA has the medical school on campus, so there's lots of opportunities there; UCLA is also supposed to be the most 'fun' out of SD, LA, and B but then again college is as fun as you make it.
Cal doesn't have the medical school on campus, but there is research opportunities available, just like at any other school. However, there is the name Cal carries around which is pretty darn good, but remember people won't care what undergrad school you went to in about 5 years when you're actually in med school. Also, premed at Cal may mean stiffer competition and work.

I'm really undecided between the three as they all have their pro's and con's, so I guess my visits in the next 2 weeks will weigh heavily in my decision.

They spun Davis and UCSF off of Cal because Cal itself was just to big and they wanted to divide it. UCLA and others were FOUNDED because they wanted UC campuses there.

I'm saying UCSF is really just Cal pretty much. I would choose between UCSD and Cal for med. There's so many research opportunities available in SD as well as in Berkeley because of all the Biotech companies here. LA may be the "most fun" because it's LA, and you're associating Hollywood and everything with it. Maybe it is true you can find MORE opportunities to get wasted/have fun in LA, but when you actually DO go to school, I'm sure its all about the same. SD has few parties in school. It all takes place in the city. Thats why Cal and LA work very well if you want to have fun =)

well, although UCSF is one of the TOp med schools, it is an hour or so away, so it is unrealistic to use their facilities regularly. Are there medical centers to do volunteer work around Cal so that i can do volunteer work and such? And you say the research at Cal is very good? Also is the fierce competition worth going to Cal over UCLA, or is the competition generally the same? The constant rumors that going to Cal will kill your grades is not something that is pleasing to the ears. Although Cal>UCLA is academics, i need input on the competition between the two. THanks
