Calc 1110 or 1120?

I got 5's on AP Calc AB and BC. But which do I take...i hate doing convergence tests and taylor series.

How difficult is 1120 compared to 1110? Which would be the best

Or be a man and skip to 213!

seriously though lol

…Seriously depends on how confident you are with your math. Technically 1110 should be considered “easier” material wise, but I’ve heard their grading is pretty annoying and they’re rather conceptually heavy (you know, the type of conceptual that never gets in AP students). 1120 is pretty much BC part of Calc, and some intro to differential.

If you don’t want to do the different series tests (though they are actually, conceptually helpful), my advice would be to actually switch to 213. 1120 will cover that stuff. If you’re really not confident and want to start over then go to 1110.

What is your intended major? If you got 5s on AB and BC, you’re probably at least decent at math. Why not move onto multivariable? It will be a lot of fun learning something new!

If you’re not into that, though, from what I’ve heard calc I grade-wise isn’t necessarily easier than calc II, even though calc I material is certainly easier. If you’re thinking about doing anything involving differential equations, you’re going to have to use a lot of stuff with infinite series. If that is the case, I would go with 1120. If on the other hand you’re not going to need that much math in the future, I suppose you could go with 1110. But it just sounds so silly… you took both classes in high school and got 5s!

lol…I only need to take two math courses for my bio major req. which is 1110+1120…

If you are premed/bio it is usually advised to not use AP credit for any classes that are required for med school admissions… My freshman year I was premed and literally retook 2 semesters Bio, 2 semesters Chem, and Calc… Felt like a waste - especially since the science courses are based on a tough curve. I ended up retaking Calc 1 instead of moving onto Calc 2 because I had forgotten some basics over the summer and wasn’t used to the pace of college math courses. I only took AB though, so you probably could take Calc 2 no problem. Or if you want a challenge just move onto the next.

If you are looking for the easiest way to fulfill your math requirement for the bio major, take Calc 1 for one semester, and take statistics the second semester. If you aren’t premed it sounds like your AP credit will place you out of math maybe (not sure about CAS).

i got a 5 on AP Stats too lol…and I DESPISE stats, but luv calc (i’m in CAS btw)

I know nothing about 1110 but I too got a 5 on BC Calc and decided to take math 1120, thinking it’d be a review…it is NOT. It’s a difficult class, unless you really love math and are willing to give it a lot of attention. Plus the teachers are NOT professors, they’re all foreign TAs and most of them can’t speak English. Very irritating, I think Cornell can do better.

nooooooooooooo

ya… thats why i ended up taking calc 1

Uh… I have friends who took 112.

They covered pretty much the BC topics… it’s really nothing new. Then again, a 5 on BC doesn’t really mean a thing since the curve is ridiculous.
