Is it recommended to take AP Calculus BC before linear algebra, or is AB sufficient? My local CC only requires Calculus I as a prereq.

Thanks!

It doesn’t really matter. Linear algebra is typically taken after the calculus sequence, but that’s not really due to any kind of ‘prerequisite’ requirements. Linear algebra is a great deal different than calculus. An introductory linear algebra course isn’t likely to even use any calculus. If anything, taking some more calculus first could be a good idea because of the mathematical ‘maturity’ that comes with more math classes. But it is by no means necessary. If Calc I is the prerequisite, then you’d be fine to take it.

I’d consider taking Calc II first though. Calculus is best taken as an uninterrupted sequence. The methods that you’ve learned in Calc I are going to be very relevant throughout Calc II.

@comfortablycurt thanks, I’ll be taking BC alongside linear algebra, so hopefully that’ll help. I’ve never really had much trouble with math. So we’ll see how this goes

Linear algebra really doesn’t require calculus at all. However, most teachers will incorporate calculus into their problems so having an AB knowledge is all that’s required

You are asking opposite question. The question should be- do i need to do linear algebra before calculus.
you do not need calculus before linear algebra, insted you nee linear algebra before calculus.
i will suggest you to study from ‘I.A. MARON’s calculus of one variable’ for basics of calculus.
