Calculating SAT Scores

I took the practice test from RocketReview's book, and I can say this... I must be really stupid! (Don't know why I'm ranked 12/219 in my class, have taken the most rigorous classes my school offers, and have like a 96 grade point average.) Anyways, I'm going to post how many I got correct in each section, and I would like to see if you can tell me approx. what score range I would get on the real SAT.

Section 1: English: Omitted.
Section 2: Reading - 11/22 correct.
Section 3: Math - 12/20 correct.
Section 4: Reading - 9/22 correct.
Section 5: English - 22/45 correct.
Section 6: Math - 10/20 correct.
Section 7: Reading - 2/18 correct. (I am stupid!)
Section 8: Math - 6/12 correct. (This part was the "come up with your own answers" section.)

I'm about to start on the CollegeBoard book, - (the blue book) - and try to improve my SAT scores from that.

My highest scores in each section of the SAT have been the following: Math: 530, Reading: 440, and English: 480.

By the way, Section 1 which was English was the essay part that I omitted.

On your TIPS FOR SAT thread I asked you a few questions on 12/20 and you didn't answer. I think they are relevant (I take it that you are a Senior since you are applying to college already).

Sorry man, I just realized I had totally forgotten about that thread. I just finished answering those questions. And yes, I am a Senior.

idk man...

wait u just started studying for the SATs? Are you taking in jan? What's your goal score? From the looks of it......its not gonna look pretty on the real SAT. What are ur struggles with teh SAT? get a grammar review book, and study the rules constantly broken. If ur struggling with vocab (its kind of late now), study like the most common 300 words o r something
if u cant concentrate on the passages, break it down. Read 2 paragraphs, answer questions relating to that, etc.. Remember, the answers come from the passage.......pick the answer where u can find textual support.
Math...... do u not know the material? Is it just tricking you? It seems like ur having trouble with the medium/easy questions too. Learn those, dominate those. Those aren't meant to be really tricky. If u dont know the math, get a review book or something.

Yeah that grade inflation will tend to trick you.

Are you currently enrolled in an American school?

You seem to have the ability to write in English. Your score probably will be similar to the score that you posted.

Yes, I just started studying about a two weeks ago. I am taking the SAT I in January for the last time. My goal is hopefully at least 560 in each section... aiming for about 600 in each though. My main struggle with the SAT is the CR section. The other sections I can handle if I take my time, especially with the new strategies I've learned. I freak out when I'm under pressure... mainly because of the time limit. I have several SAT books. I lately finished the RocketReview book, and I'm working on the CB blue book at the moment. I am supposed to be getting PR's book tomorrow. I am beginning to take the practice tests from the CB blue book tomorrow. I'm already studying the 323 word list from RR. I have memorized about a hundred of the vocabulary already. I'm currently reviewing the old material for the math part. It's is all coming back, slowly but surely. As for the CR section, it's just too hard for me, but that can't be an excuse. I'm doing my best to master it.

Currently I am enrolled in an American school. English, however, is not my first language. But then again, it shouldn't have anything to do with my scores.

Uh thats a lot of books. What is ur struggle with CR? The passages? If ur having trouble with them, i STRONGLY suggest breaking down the reading. it keeps u focused.

Yes, the passages are a problem. I'm getting better with sentence completion as I am learning new vocabulary. I'm still struggling with sentence completion, but it is improving with time. The passages are long and tedious; I just need to get over that fact and read it. I tend to wander off from what I'm reading accidentially from time-to-time.

maybe you should try the ACT if it's not too late

check your other thread

I replied on that thread almost an hour ago; you might've not realized. Thanks for telling me though. I tend to forgot sometimes.

Taking the ACT is too late now, but thanks for the advice lehcar.

if it's too long, just break the passage down. The questions have line references (for ex. in line 60....) mark them before u read. That way u know exactly how to break down the passages. If 1 paragraph has 4 questions, read that, and answer them. Otherwise, just break it down into 3 parts. Its a lot easier to maintain focus throughout the passage

Thanks kevin. I'll take your advise and use it tomorrow when I take the first practice test from the CB blue book. I'll post my results on here for some people's amusement. ;)

Np hope it works. Dont forget to save the "according to this passage as a whole" and questions like those for after u read the whole thing.

I took the first practice SAT this morning after waking up at 7 AM. I got the following score ranges:

Reading: 500-560 (on real SAT the superscore for my Reading is a 440). I personally think I spent a good bit of time lately on the Reading, and I have barely reviewed the Math section. I did leave four blanks on the Reading section from the entire practice test which counted as a "complete incorrect answer" I guess. Not that it would've mattered a whole lot. Probably that's why the score ranges are so open.)
Math: 450-510 (on real SAT the superscore for my Math is a 530). Here I realized I missed several easy to medium questions. I was a bit rushed on some of this parts, and because I was rushed due to the timing, I bet I made careless mistakes. I still need to go back and see why I missed it. Then again, I left about six blanks, and that counted as a "miss" on this practice test. Also, I got two out of ten "fill-in the answer" right. Again, here I believe I made some easy, careless mistakes.)
English: I don't know my score range on the English section yet. I recently created a thread so people could give me a score of 1-6 on my SAT essay. Once I determine that, I will have my score-range listed on here. My total MC rounded raw score was 27.

Edit to the above post.

I just realized I counted blank (-0 raw points) as -1/4 a point. Therefore, I went back and adjusted my mistakes, and my new scores are as follows:

Critical Reading: 510-570.
Math: 460-520. (Missed a few easy questions as the answer sheet says... easy questions. I posted a new thread in the SAT Preparation section because I still don't understand them.
English: 470-600 - after giving myself a 3 out of 6 on the essay.

The curves on the SAT can vary a lot, but let me give you a general situation of how many you need to get right or wrong. What are you aiming for again? You said at least 600, right? Do you want to aim higher though? Anyways, for 600, this is what it's like.

Math-Basically omit 15 questions and get all the other ones right. But remember, if you get it wrong, you lose .25. So if you got 12 wrong, that's minus 3(12/4), so that would go to a minus 15 off your raw score. For a 700, you need to stay at about 4-5 questions wrong which still makes it very close.

CR-basically 20 questions omitted gives you a 600, and 10 omitted gets you a 700. But again, when you get 4 wrong, it actually goes to 5 wrong because if the -.25 penalty.

Writing depends on your essay so I don't want to go too much into it.
