Calculating tuition at Rice

The website shows that the tuition portion of the average cost of attendance is $36,610. The website also shows that the cost per unit is $1,526. Therefore, the number of units in the average cost of attendance is only 12 per semester. In order to graduate in four years you must take 15 to 17 units per semester.

Is the above correct? As I see it, the average tuition per year should be more like 16 X 2 X $1,526, for tuition of $48,832. The tuition of $36,610 understates the "average."

Full time students may enroll in 12-20 credit hours each semester. Tuition is not billed per credit hour for full time students, so the cost is the same.

Full-time students pay the per-semester price shown on that same page, which is $36,610 for 2 semesters. That price covers up to 20 units per semester. Part-time students pay the per-unit price.

So tuition is flat after paying the tuition shown on the average cost of attendance! That is great news, thanks!

I just wanted to mention that the per-semester tuition price actually covers more than just 20 hours. You have to get special permission, but if you end up with more than 20 credit hours (I had 22 one semester), you still don’t have to pay any additional tuition.
