Calculus

So I just took calculus 1 and barely passed the class. I got a 562 (560 is passing) and I really need to go into further math and calculus based physics. I struggle with the basic concepts. I asked my professor and he said he won’t change the grade. I left a message to the dean’s office and I’m supposed to get a call from him tomorrow. I don’t know what to do… I really don’t think I’ll do well in calculus 2… My professor told me to audit the class even though I don’t have enough time because of the amount of units and he will not change my grade. Do I have to petition? Please help me… Sorry if I repeated anything… I’m just sad right now… Math is my worst subject…

On what grounds would you petition for a grade change? It sounds like, sad to say, that was the grade you actually earned. The only way to successfully petition for a grade change is if some error or mistake has been made in determining your grade.

Given that you barely passed Calc 1, I think that you should retake that class, instead of trying to continue. Most Calc 2 courses deal with Integrals, and you need to have a good understanding of derivatives in order to work with Integrals. Hopefully, you can improve your grade, which may allow you to replace your current grade. Also, you will presumably improve your understanding of the course content.

At my college, the prerequisite for Calc 2 is Calc 1 with a grade of ‘C’ or higher. This helps students be more successful in Calc 2.

What do you hope to gain from a grade change? Are you asking for a higher grade when you “struggle with the basic concepts”?
