Does anyone just feel like they were sexually assaulted by that final today?

that was definitely a no holds barred gang rape... hopefully i did alright.

yea, i got raped by it...

Oh my three fine plebes, I am sorry to hear it went that bad. It has certainly been a tough class and has had its difficulties.

Please all three of you, take some time to deep breathe, relax and know that this too will make you a stronger and better person.

Even if the outcome is not favorable.

I am confident all three of you will rise above this.

Success is not necessarily the results at hand but what you do with those results.

How will you shape this outcome?

In the future, the plebes might want to consider that their analogy is not quite appropriate. No doubt the test was difficult - but sexual assault, gang rape and rape? I don't think so!

what ever.... i still say i was raped

Not gonna lie. I got raped last year and yes I say raped

2010, after checking with my son, I have to agree with KP10 that "raped" was correct English usage.

One definition of "raped" is "despoiled: having been robbed and destroyed by force and violence."

My son said, "I'm sure I was 'raped' by the exam because we werent allowed to use calculators. The professor mentioned there may be a curve. Oh well, there is more to life than Calculus."

By the way, 2010, what school did you decide upon?

You know I was going to mention that it was a bit on the hyperbolic side to utilize that word too, but I wanted to give a little bit of empathy and compassion to the initial shock of the exam first and then talk about that.

I am assuming you three are all guys and apologize if I am not correct.

Even though the definition of rape can be above the common and accepted usage has to do with sexual assault and that was the context the word was used in.

Guys, I know you meant no harm and are comiserating over a very stressful experience. But should a person who really was raped came in on this thread it would be extremely distressing to them as it minimalizes the horrific experience they went through.

That being said, I am very sorry that the test went so bad for all of you. And I hope you can find a way to utilize the experience to become stronger.

May I ask if the three of you are all in the same class? And may I ask atlsmith if his son also is in the same class?

If so, I'd like to have a candid discussion on my observation of your class' dynamics from a parents perspective on parent's weekend. If you are in different classes, then the discussion would not really be beneficial.

Only tomorrow left and then it is leave time!

For the parents in this thread:

I'm not sure if y'all have never heard the term used in this way before, but the term used is a very common description for a very difficult test, especially if it wasn't expected. They weren't worried about the particular definition of the word or the correct grammar, it is more of a slang term when used in this context. Although rape is not a joking matter you would be hard pressed to find someone at the collegiate level who has not come out of a test at one time or another saying what was said.

In fact a common response these days would include something to the effect that the teacher didn't 'grease the wheel first' so to speak (the real response is usually a little more vulgar, but I decided to leave it out, ask your son I'm sure they know it if you're really interested)

okay, back to the moaning about calculus. It stinks to say the least. But grind through it and things get better.

kp2001, there are many common descriptions that may be inappropriate.

I do not want to diminish the stress and effects of this test. I clearly empathize.

But seriously if you said this unknowingly to a person who has truely been sexually assaulted this phrase would be more than offensive; it would bring back an experience of such horrific portions that most of us can not imagine.

I think it is worthy to tell them such as I don't think any of them would intentionally wish to do this.

really? it was that bad? i heard it wasnt THAT bad.

no no it was that bad........very bad.

and when it comes to the term rape it's a slang at kp.

we say a lot of stupid things that you don't say at normal places.

LOL that is so true. both about the stupid things and the normal places.

ggspin21 are you in the same class as KP10?

Sorry it was so rough. You guys pick yourselves up & dust yourselves off. Can you say, "I NEED A BREAK!"? Enjoy every second of your short freedom! Be safe out there too.

To say you were "raped" by a test is a King's Point thing....no one finds it to be offensive, not even the females...it's great that as parents you want to learn more about a school that is so different from a normal college...but you are never going to understand everything that takes place or that is said, it is a different world....so please don't try to correct our culture, its the only thing that keeps us going....

haha well said

Flynavy, fair winds & following seas. I understand the Jamz is rooting for your Cards since "his" team was out a long time ago. Be safe out there & drink in all that you see. It is indeed amazing. Good luck to you in all that you will do. Check in when you can.

Jamzmom waves her little bon voyage flag

flynavy, sometimes even cultures need improvement. I will stand by my admonition that if you have ever been raped to hear this conversation would bring back horrific memories and trivialize the extent of what you went through. speak amongst yourselve like this, but this is a public forum.

KP10sMOM, you were trying to figure out if the plebes were all in the same class so you could perhaps have some candid discussion about dynamics, etc.

Actually, this is the point in the trimester when the plebes and the upper class midshipmen typically record their comments on the "Rate my Professor" website:

There is no charge to join. The ratings and comments are interesting.
