California College's - Out of state

Hey, I know I am pretty late on looking at college's and I am pretty set on where I am going but I have always wanted to go to California. I remember driving from LAX to Beverly Hills as a kid passing by UCLA and saying I want to go to school there not realizing how hard and good of a school it was I just have always liked cali, and socal in particular.

I just am wondering are there any good schools, that are both pretty decent academics wise (respectable academics), not incredibly hard to get into, and also at the same time have a normal college life (frats, sororities, parties, decent sized school, etc.)

I am on the impossible end for all of the UC schools, and I don't really think I'd be interested in any of the CSU schools so is there anything left? Any good private schools in socal that are not ridiculous to get into, and the stuff I listed above?

I am from Chicago, come from a good public college prep high school, decent curriculum, 2.7 GPA, and 24 ACT....

Thanks in advance guys!

Your GPA is a bit low, but you might still have chances at some of these schools. They might be smaller than you’re looking for though. They’ll also cost you around $50,000/year - are your parents willing to pay that much?

Whittier College
Cal Lutheran
University of San Diego
Chapman University
University of Redlands
University of La Verne

It is up in Northern CA, but you may want to consider St. Marys College, located in the picturesque town of Moraga.

Try Loyola Marymount (LMU).
It’s location overlooks the dunes and beach near Marina Del Rey
and it’s not too terribly far from UCLA.

It sounds just like it’s the type of school that you’re looking for.

I would also second the recommendation for Chapman, although
it’s in Orange, rather than LA county.

Depending on your stats and your interests, you may also want to consider
Occidental or one of the Claremont Colleges.
