Los Angeles Pierce College - biology
USC AND UCLA

College of the Canyons!!!-english
UCLA,Cal,Cornell or Stanford (yeah right for last two)

Santa Monica College
UCLA earth science

i plan to take a winter course @ smc. are you planning on any courses highschoolda?

Diablo Valley College (norcal)
GPA (av) 3.78
Major: Econ/International Econ
Hoping to transfer to UCB, UCLA, NYU, or Cornell

Kevin
I am doing either Anatomy or Physics in the winter. The anatomy teacher is really easy/good in the winter, his name is Fink.

For spring, i'll be doing

OChem 4 units
Ochem Lab 2 units
Econ 3

maybe 5 units of microbio or bio at ucla ext

if u need help selecting a class or something, send me Private messg

I was thinking of taking biology 22 with colavito? its molecular biology. I might take the anatomy teacher. But my priority is getting major prep done, and pharmacy prereqs after I transfer in.

Have you heard of colavito?

two things.

Every CC has different bio sequence. SMC's consistents of three classes 21,22,23. If the place where u took urs is different, u might face probs getting credit for it. I heard students having probs w/ it. Check assist.org. Thats why they tell people to finish their sequence at one place.

SMC is really the last place u should be taking bio classes, to be honest. Some say bio is harder there than most univ, as crazy as it sounds.

UNfortantly i don't know about Cavolito, but his ratemyprofs ratings are good, so maybe it might be a good idea.

Oh trust me, biology here at pierce college is NASTY! Thats why our biology department is well known by UCLA and UCI. I know if i can get through a biology class here at pierce, I can definitely get through with it with a teacher like Covalito [assuming her ratings are accurate].

As with the bio sequences, a counselor says they're all interchangable. I have the equivalent of Biol 21. Have you decided anatomy of physics?

My SMC registration date is so late :[

Have you decided anatomy of physics?
[/quote]

Not yet really. I hear good things about both teachers. I might also take bio at ucla ext.

This sounds pathetic but the thing that holding up my decision is if I am going to major in earth science or change my major once i get into ucla. I still don't know. I am hesitant to major in bio b/c i heard so many negative things about bio majors at ucla. How it's so competative and everyone hates each other in classes, huge classes, etc.

If i do major in earth science, it makes sense for me to do anatomy, Phyio, and micro bio at smc rather than physics.

So many classes to take, so many unknowns. I want to graduate in 2 years after transfer too UGHH.

Kevin, how many bio classes is ur sequence at pierce?
HOw are ur chem classes there? What percent of students get A.

I am just curious b/c SMC is pretty damn hard and i study a lot, and sometimes wonder if going there was a good decision.

Well, the Pierce biology is very tough here. But at the end of the day, you get a GREAT grasp of the material, which would benefit you if you're planning on taking the MCAT.

Chemistry here at Pierce is great. Chemistry isn't easy, but we have teachers that are great lecturers. I'm currently enrolled in organic chemistry 1 with Dr. Ono. [You can check out his ratings if you want]. He breaks everything down which allows to grasp the concepts one at a time. And he ends the day with a chemistry demo which is fun. And I'd say the precentage of people who get A's are about 40%? There will be few students who are lazy and end up with C's and such.

The biology sequence is General Biology I and II, and the course at SMC Biol 22, is broken into a 3 unit molecular biotechnology class in the winter and a 3 unit genetics class in the spring. I figure I can get both out of the way in the winter if I take it at SMC.

I'd say the difficulty at Pierce is above average, but the transfer rate is pretty good too.

And for your choice in majoring in earth science or biology, I would choose the major that you think you'll get a higher GPA in. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the PharmCAS GPA includes your bachelor's GPA also.

Maybe I'll see you around in the winter. I just hope the class is still open for me to add.

Btw, where are you from? or live?

Oh and about graduating in two years post transfer - you can definitely do it as an Earth Science major. And you can go back to SMC to finish up the prereqs.

I live in Westwood, 5 minutes from UCLA.

SMC is about 6 miles from my house.

Went to Santa Monica High School-Walking distance from SMC.

Have WLA CC also located fairly closely.

I am trying to finish in 2 years w/ all my pharm prereqs and bachelors.

Not easy considering i have yet to take speech, stats, physics.

I might finish Physio, Anatomy, Micro in the end of this year.

Then finish bio next year.

Do physics senior year.

Go to summer school every year of course...

Will this work? Hopefully.

MT SAC CC ..

BIO SCI MAjor? i think im gonna change this to psych cuz bio is to competitive.

goal: transfer to uci.. or ucla. whichever if i do well.

Santa Rosa JC

Computer Science major

My goal is to transfer into University of Washington

CardinalFocused,

If it makes you feel better, I got into Cornell from Pierce College/SMC.

Good luck!

Chabot College

Economics at UCB / UCD / SFSU / maybe Stanford

UCLAri, when did you attend Pierce college? What were your stats here?
