California Residency?

I'm sorry. D= I dunno where else to ask about this lol. Move this thread if you have to.

I'm a little confused about the whole residency process. I've been trying to move to California from Colorado for ages (my parents, as well) but the goal was never accomplished. =\ SO. I'm thinking maybe I could live with my Cali Aunt for a year before Fall 2010 (I wouldn't be using her house as room and board though).

I guess living there for 366 days and giving up previous residency isn't enough lol. =x I have full intent on living in California, believe me.

I wanna ask. What does it mean to be financially independent? Is it like...having a job, doing your own tax and not being used for reduced income tax by your parents? I dunno.

I also want to note that my dad has been living in California for the past 5 years. He just recently came back to Colorado, though I'm pretty darn sure he's still holding CA residency. Would that qualify me as a residency or would I still have to be "financially independent"? <.<;;

I'm utterly lost. Please respond if you have any clue at all. )=
