California schools requiring 1 year of visual art classes?

Does this mean 1 consecutive year of an art class or 2 semesters of similar classes. Getting woried because I want to apply to 3 or 4 colleges in California but most say 1 year of art. My friend is telling me I need to take the same class for 2 semesters (example Ceramics 1 and Ceramics 2). However, I was told Photography 1 semester and Ceramics 1 another semester is fine. PLEASE HELP

The UC’s and Cal states require the year long VPA course.

F) Visual and performing arts

UC-approved high school courses:

One yearlong course of visual and performing arts chosen from the following: dance, drama/theater, music or visual art

AP or IB examination:

Score of 3, 4 or 5 on the AP History of Art, Studio Art or Music Theory Exam;

score of 5, 6 or 7 on any one IB HL exam in Dance, Film, Music, Theatre Arts or Visual Arts

College courses:

Grade of C or better in any transferable course of 3 semester (4 quarter) units that clearly falls within one of four visual/performing arts disciplines: dance, drama/theater, music or visual art.

**
Students are expected to complete a single yearlong VPA course to satisfy the “f” subject requirement, but they may also fulfill the requirement by completing two semesters of sequentially related and approved “f” courses within a single arts discipline.

No, 1 semester of Photography and 1 semester of Ceramics will not qualify.
