California State Undergraduate Business Programs Help

Hey everyone, this is my first post on this forum and was really hoping someone could help me out. I’m currently 23 years old and applying to transfer to a state school from Community College. However, I don’t actually know which schools have the best Undergraduate Business programs specifically with Marketing. Yes, yes, I know Berkeley and USC have probably the best in California. However, I neither have the grades nor the money to be able to go to those schools. I have a 3.24 GPA leaving community college. I know it isn’t the best GPA, but I have also seen worse. GPA was mainly brought down by C’s in math classes because while I’m decent at Math I suck at Math tests.

Anyway, I’m hoping someone can fill me in on which CSU’s have the best undergraduate business programs because I can’t find much online and don’t know who I can ask for information. Everything I have found online is at least 9 or so years old so I’m hoping to find more up to date information.

I know that everyone says Cal Poly SLO has a really good business program and I really wanted to go because they recently started having a focus in Big Data Analysis for their Marketing program and that is something that I was interested in. However, they are not accepting applications for next term being Winter 2017 and if i wanted to apply I would have to wait until the following Spring 2017 term to apply for. However, I don’t know if they will even be accepting applications or if I even would be accepted if i did wait and apply.

I’m already missing a semester of school because I was so bent on applying to SLO since I didn’t get accepted when I applied for the Fall 2017 term that I wanted to wait to apply for Winter 2017 (but oh boy! I wasted my time because they aren’t even accepting applications!!!). I also wanted to wait so that I could hit 23 and be able to file as independent for Financial Aid, but then I found out that the age was changed to 24 (great).

Anyway the other schools I had in mind were San Diego State University, CSU Long Beach, CSU Fullerton, and San Jose State University. The last forum post I found about this had ranked the schools in this order for these specific schools:

  1. SDSU
    2.CSU Fullerton
    3.CSU Long Beach
  2. SJSU

If anyone can give me a hand I’d really appreciate it. Also if you know of other schools that have great business programs please let me know!

Incase anyone is wondering why I’m only transferring now at the age of 23, well, life happened is all I can really say. I went to community college immediately after High School and honestly could have gotten out after 2 years, but I couldn’t settle on a major. I switched around quite a few times which is why I was in community college for so long because I had fulfilled all my general ed within the first 2 years but just was experimenting with majors because I didn’t want to be stuck with something I hated like a lot of people that I know. I also had to take a semester off like twice I think because I had some stuff that needed to be taken care of.

Thanks again for anyone who is willing to help!

Only Cal State Long Beach and Fullerton are accepting Spring Transfers 2017. SDSU/SJSU are not. You can use the link to see which other Cal States are accepting Spring Transfers and if your major is available.

If you are interested in SDSU, it is a very difficult admit and you would have to wait until Fall 2018. I would consider the other CSU’s that offer Spring transfers to continue on your path of getting a Marketing degree.

Good Luck.

With a 3.24, I think SDSU and Long Beach are probably out of reach. Fullerton could go either way.
I sensed some urgency in your post, I’d encourage you to apply more broadly and keep an open mind about the school you attend. Chico could go either way but Sac, Sonoma and SF all have credible programs and are highly likely to admit you.

Good luck

You might also want to look into UC Riverside’s undergraduate business school. A couple of years ago, UCR was a lot easier to get into than Haas. One could have gotten in with less than a 3.5GPA.

Great point about UCR - another solid option worthy of consideration! Their TAG threshold will give you a margin of safety. Be sure to follow the program to the letter though.

I understand SDSU, but is Long Beach really that difficult to get into? Last time I found forum posts everyone has ranked Fullerton above Long Beaxh for their business program. And yeah I know SF state would accept me with no troubles but I live basically next to it and don’t really like the school. I also haven’t heard great things about their business program from people I know who went through it

Long Beach had 90K applicants this year. They are the most popular CSU and are impacted. Only the Cal Polys are more competitive that LB and SDSU.

Apply widely to our state schools.

Okay, well, other state schools aside just wondering. Between Fullerton and Long Beach, which one is considered to have a “better” business program. I know that’s very subjective, just wondering out of curiousity.

Both are good, but both are also impacted, so if your GPA is not high and you are not from the local area, your priority for admission is reduced.

Rankings don’t mean a whole lot. Both are within miles of each other and both have access to good internships.

Okay thanks a ton, really appreciate it

SFSU had a good quality program but they’re impacted and they keep cutting teachers, my friend is finding it to be a nightmare to attend. With that kind of GPA I agree SDSU is probably out of reach, but San Jose is probably a good one to strive for.

Got accepted to Fullerton

Congrats!

And the other schools?

I ended up just applying to Fullerton because out of the few schools that were accepting applications I liked Fullerton best haha
