@SmartGurl17: Is CSULB worth it in comparison to what other schools? Refresh me with your intended major and are the costs comparable to the other schools you have been accepted?
This data is from the common dataset for 2017 Freshman
Percent of Freshman with SAT Composite scores in the following range:
1,400-1,600: 3.08%
1,200-1,399: 28.55%
1,000-1,199: 44.27%
Percent of Freshman with UW GPA in the following range:
Percent who had GPA of 3.75 and higher: 32.74%
Percent who had GPA between 3.50 and 3.74: 23.35%
Percent who had GPA between 3.25 and 3.49: 19.27%
Percent who had GPA between 3.00 and 3.24: 16.52%
CSULB is one of the top CSU’s and well regarded. As you can see, your SAT puts in the top third of applicants so you will not be alone with comparable academically competitive students. There is an advantage of being a Big Fish in a small pond.
@Gumbymom Thanks so much! Do you also have similar data for SDSU?
@Gumbymom The schools I’m considering is San Diego State and UT Dallas, along with CSULB. My major is Biology. The costs are manageable if I get exempted from dorm housing.
@SmartGurl17: I will send you a PM for the SDSU data. I do not want to derail this thread.
@Gumbymom Could I please ask you to PM me that data as well for SDSU? Thank you
@Gumbymom I actually located it online, thanks!
Was anyone else wait listed for Housing? I thought freshman were required to live on campus?
my application was just withdrawn so I hope one of you on the waitlist gets my spot!! best of luck <3
Hello! My daughter is wait listed for housing. They said they’re over capacity and usually aren’t but this year is different. I wanted to know if anyone else is in the same boat and what your plans are. Or if anyone has any suggestions regarding rooming.
Hello! My daughter is wait listed for housing. They said they’re over capacity and usually aren’t but this year is different. I wanted to know if anyone else is in the same boat and what your plans are. What do you plan to do? Wait it out? The website says they Freshmen are Required (as space is available).
@webmlou @angelaxoxo Same situation here. I assumed they would give her priority since they say Freshman are required to live on campus, and she applied as soon as she chose CSLB from her options. Not happy, I guess we have no choice but to wait it out for a few weeks and see if she gets moved up. No idea what she will do otherwise. Stress added to already stressful application process this year being on multiple other school admission waitlists.
Hi @kclcjc
Last year they cleared/opened 120 spots on June 6th as a data point. Not sure what # your daughter is on the wait-list, but if your daughter is under that #, she might be ok.
@Calstates thanks for the info. She is on the waitlist under #50. Crossing our fingers, not something we planned/want for a 17yr old away from home for the first time. We don’t live locally
Hi @kclcjc, this whole college process has been the most stressful time. Good luck to your daughter. My daughter is #171 out of 177. She received an email on Friday, on her graduation day, about choosing roommates, then another one 30 minutes later saying the previous email was in error.
Ugh so sorry to hear @webmlou! Terrible timing. I did not expect the college admissions process to be like this; my daughter is a great student…the competition and number of applicants for CA schools has been insane. Waitlists for the schools was a known, but I am really worried about housing. I hope they do get all of the freshman settled into a place to live on campus. The entire college experience starts with the bonding during freshman year.
@webmlou have you made any decisions on housing? The waitlist hasn’t moved very much—looking grim
@kclcjc No, we haven’t made any decisions yet. We’re heading to SOAR next week and while she’ s in the program we’re going to check out the neighborhoods and look at some listings we found on roommate finders. How about you?Have you looked at other options?
@webmlou Pls send me a DM with your daughter’s name…my daughter is going to SOAR next week also. We haven’t found a solution for housing. Looking at all options but she really wanted to live in the dorm.
@Calstates It looks like they’re at max occupancy. Fingers were crossed that they’d drop some, but the needle hasn’t moved.
