Just a quick note to ask that all parents who have students at Malone House let their kids know that UVA has changed'/charged their meal plan (and billing you) an extra $55 for the Hereford experience. Why should you care? Well, since Hereford excluded all Malone kids from their first banquet (just an "accident and or/miscommunication "so that Malone kids ended up in a room at O hall instead standing in line with the crowds instead of enjoing a banquet), maybe Hereford could give some $$$ to Malone.
I am steadfastly resisting being a helicopter parent here, but did ask my son to let his Malone student council know and if you each let your kid know about this on the informal Columbus Day visit home 3 day weekend, and asked them to speak to their Council, who Knows? Maybe the Malone kids would not have to stand around the Hereford houses and beg someone to let them into the activities that they are being charged for... since the malone cards do not let students swipe into anything but Hereford laundry rooms while Hereford students can swipe into other Hereford areas. Maybe they will actually get to go to the future banquets and activities they get billed for.
And if I am the only Malone parent that UVA changed the billing on without any notice except for the demand to pay the extra $55 in the second statement, please let me know that also. Malone was supposed to be the best of both worlds, (residential and regular) not the WORST.

Are you kidding? Anything in Hereford sucks.

I guess the Hereford students left behing to wait 4 more hours to get home by a broken down bus on their Busch Garden trip would agree with you. Is Runk food really as bad as I hear (lukewarm, sits out forever, recycled etc) ?

All the "activities" in the Hereford budget are beside the point. Hereford just sucks. It's a black hole of misery and despair.

Interestingly, rumor has it among the non-Hereford first years that Runk is actually better than Newcomb and O'Hill. This holds perfectly with my theory that students always find the dining hall they attend most regularly to be the worst, while the more exotic ones (ie, Runk for an Old Dormer) are better.

i had a stupid class in cauthen i guess last year and i would make the trek to runk for food every once ina while. i thought the grill was better than newcomb - and stirfry never had a line. but it definately didn't have as large of a selection. i will say though i have yet to eat in the dining hall part of the new ohill so that could be better.

According to a Hereford denizen, Malone is no longer part of Hereford, and it's now part of New dorms. They are going to do the same thing to Weedon or Whyburn next year. This is probably why the Malone kids were not invited to the banquet.

What Cav says about dining hall food is true. Before my years @ UVA, I went to summer programs and always ate at Newcomb. By first year, I hated Newcomb and always ate at O'Hill. Now, this year, I hate O'Hill and now only eat at Newcomb. My four visits to Runk were "better" than anything I had at the other two.

Yeah, I get it that Hereford does not believe Malone should be invited to the banquets or be able to get into the Hereford buildings for activities, etc. What I don't get is why I as a parent am being billed by hereford for an extra $110 a year if that is the case. I was surprised by the line item changing our asked for mean plan to "hereford" on my second statement.

Runk allegedly gets lots less traffic and customers than O Hill so the food sits a looonng time under the lamps then gets reheated and put out again until somebody takes it. I guess fresh garlic bread is better than lukewarm reheated garluc bread, etc.
But you may very well be right
Thanks for posting

You should probably take that up directly with them if you think that you're being unfairly charged. Don't let them rip you off

Just gaming the system to make this post go to the top of College Confidential. I don't care about the money so much as the principle. Just give the $55 to Malone to do their own banquets and activities. But if no parent speaks up, then same old same old. (Cuz I am guessing that the cold pit of despair in Hereford/Malone noted by Cavalier302 precludes a Gallaudet University type uprising)

Or do only old dorm students and parents post here?
