The good side of MALONE

As my cybername implies, I won't be charming until 2017, so periodically cranky old parent rants will appear (like yesterday's whining). But as a Libra, I had to give the balance about what is great about Malone and probably justifies the extra $240 of Hereford fees.

Malone is basically a puke free zone due to the hundred plus steps that the drunks chose not to negotiate and crash elsewhere. And for those inebriated atheletes who do charge up the stairs, there is usually a side stop leaving the common areas remarkably tidy

Malone comes with a "free" refrigerator/microwave and room carpeting and airconditioning

Malone is the only dorm where first year students can get a single with zero hassle despite Hereford's stated policy of first years must have roommates

Malone students all get plenty of aerobic activity climbing up and down the hill since it is faster and more reliable than the bus system.

Malone is a work in progress - at Summer Orientation this year, the Housing representative did not even know about the single room option or how it was actually supposed to work or even if it was part of Hereford. (as noted in my earlier posting, the finance office has no such doubts.)

No goofy essays nor peer review to get into Malone

wats malone?

Malone is a failed experiment by UVA on housing first year students while integrating them into the residential college experience of Hereford. Trying to get the best of both worlds resulted in the worst of each However it has been successful in propping up Hereford's other houses finances.

Malone is a dormitory located at the top of a hill near the Observatory with irregular bus service but all the good qualities I listed. The official party line is available at the Housing web site on UVA.

The bus service in general is unreliable. Not just at Malone.

The entire O-Hill housing area is a failed experiment.

Too bad UVA brass don't have the clarity that you posters have.

i didn't realize the new o-hill was an experiment. i still have yet to be in the new ohill with the exception of the basement to get a replacement id card.
