I have been prepping for the SAT Math for a long long time now, and have pulled myself from the 500s to the high 600s/low 700s. Usually, I omit around 4-6 questions and get the rest right. I never get easy/medium level questions wrong: it's ALWAYS the level 5 questions. I am planning to finish nine more real SAT tests before the October 11th SAT, but I seriously don't know how to score 740+. I feel like my score is stuck because I don't know how to stop getting level 5 questions wrong. There also isn't a pattern of what kind of question I get wrong...they're just hard, level 5 questions. Could be algebra, could be geometry, could be numbers operations.

Does anyone have this experience, if so, how did you conquer it? Does anyone have any suggestions?

I already have 750+ on the other two sections, and SAT Math is the last hurdle that I must jump through. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

I did a lot of contest math and other things in HS, so 800 on the SAT math wasn’t too difficult for me, except for the occasional stupid mistake (however CR and W were not as easy), but I can give you a few tips:

*Read the questions carefully and interpret them exactly as written. Even for level 5 problems.

*The harder problems usually have multiple solutions, one of them may be significantly easier than others, but more difficult to find. You never need to do excessive listing out combinations or brute force. Some basic combinatorics and number theory background helps here.

*Be aware of obvious-looking but incorrect answers.

@MITer94 I have always had a very poor foundation in math, and raising myself to the score I am at right now has already been an arduous ordeal unfortunately

Sometimes, I just don’t even know how to START to solve the question. Like I’ll just stare at it, but no solutions/methods come to mind. I do know that they require multiple areas of knowledge and solutions, but I just have difficulty drawing them up. Are there specific math exercises you would recommend?

the level 5 questions are all about understanding them, i constantly score low 700s even though i know to do all the questions i was not able to finish the hard questions in less time , and can you tell me how you score a 750+ in cr because im having a realy difficult job to even reach 600

It sounds like you need a tutor for the harder Math questions. Maybe you could approach your Math teacher at school for help during a free time?

@FuzzyPeaches22 unfortunately it is very unlikely, if not impossible, to score 800 without a decent grasp of algebra, geometry, and other topics tested. So it may be a good idea to get a solid foundation first.

^^Math teachers are not typically expert in SAT test taking strategies. I think there are better options than approaching your math teacher at school.

I have a math tutor, and have attended at least two prep centers already. As for CR, it’s just about being able to understand te passage quickly and accurately, and answering the questions.
