amen brotha.

I'm a chick and I slightly agree with that ha ha. No but really I have been in love twice. I went out with my first boyfriend for two years and seven months. Crazy ah? and I went out with another guy for not nearly as long (3 months ha ha) but I was in love with him too. And he ripped out my heart. hmmm but now there's a new guy... :D life goes on I guess?

a clarification: by "true love" i didn't mean the sentimental vision of eternity. i used the term to differentiate from teenage love, which as a rule tends to be less reliable.

but i also won't argue with the cynics.

I wasn't really referring to teenage love, or even firsts love. I think true love only comes after your heart has been broken, sliced, gouched out, and had time to recover. You can't really appreciate someone until you know what it's like to have this thing you believed in end. Teenage love, whether short or long, it's different somehow. I don't think you can love someone until you know about all those less than desirable characteristics. Most people in high school will never know that much about someone to where they learn to love and appreciate these personality flaws.

exactly.

what i meant is that the first love/teenage love can be the prelude to 'real' love, in that it gives you a more realistic viewpoint.

I agree with that. I don't really classify teenage love as true love, because often times when its over, your heart isn't broken, you may be disappointed, or even upset that it ended, but you don't really need a "recovery" phase. It can/does prelude real love however.

In a guy I look at smartness, caring, humorous.

never kissed. the last boyfriend i had was in the ....kindergaten
