Calling all the black teenagers out there, or anybody else who wants to read this...

Black people complain so much. Our daughters are pregnant, not knowing who the father is. The statistic of a young black girl is having kids and unwed. It's sad that the number of cases of HIV/AIDS of young black women is growing at a alarming rate. Our young men only think about all the bling, P-i-m-p, hoe's, drinking/smoking.Our kids can word every single line to "Lean Back" and "Drop It Like It's Hot' but yet they can't write their name. Why is it that we can talk bad about that one black kid who speaks good english, in college,or highschool, we categorize him as "Uncle Tom", or "Sellout". Why not be proud. I somtimes I am suprised that my teachers have never seen a kid like me. Because they are always like your amazing, blah blah, my thought is do they not think black people are not hardworking or something.Society makes it seems as thought black people, dont have the drive to get an education as their white counterparts, and that is not true. Don't think a black kid can not get a 1600 on their SAT's. Don't settle for the 900 they say we can only get. If you apply yourselves you can get that 1600 also. I also realize that some minorities are attending schools with inadequate education. Schools that do not let them know of classes they can take to do better on the test, or ways to get tutored, or whatever. The top person in an inadequate school, is often only at the same level of the lowest person at a higher-ranked school.

Education is so important, that I wish I could instill the kind of motivation I have to other people. More of our black men are going to prison than to college. This hip-hop music industry, I think is really destroying the black youth. When your ancestors back were fighting for your freedom, if they were here today do you think the way we live today is what they fought for?If I offend anyone in this post. I am not sorry. Everything came from the heart. I mean white, black, indian, mexian, we are all human with goals and dreams. But sometimes dont you just ask yourself, what's wrong with this world that we live in?

Dude, most of them don't care...

You're right all they want to do is drugs and hos. Its not surprising its a fact of life. They don't do anything with their lives and whenever they get into trouble they yell RACISM!!! Maybe if you stopped being so loud, and uneducated, and just plain wrong no one would be racist. I mean its kind of hard to discriminate against someone smarter and more educated than you.

The other day I was walking through the halls and I said to my friend, "Black isn't a color, its an attitude... and a smell."
Sorry about the smell part that was just to make it funny. But yeah it is an attitude. Sometimes white or asian people adopt the black attitude as well. Its kind of sad. Why would you want to be like that? I have no clue.

I'm not discriminating or anything, I'm totally generalizing, but its an adept generalization that encompasses most of the black population.

I agreed with Spdey over there.

I don't think I've ever been so offended. I could make generalizations about every race too, but that's all they are. I thought all of you young intellectuals were above stereotyping

" Our daughters are pregnant, not knowing who the father is..... Our young men only think about all the bling, P-i-m-p, hoe's, drinking/smoking.Our kids can word every single line to "Lean Back" and "Drop It Like It's Hot' but yet they can't write their name..."

While I agree that there are major problems in the black community, I disagree that every single black person in this country is as you describe.

For instance, I doubt that your father, brothers, cousins, male friends and most black males posting here "only think about all the bling, P-i-m-p, hoe's, drinking/smoking."

I doubt that you and other black posters here "can word every single line to "Lean Back" and "Drop It Like It's Hot' but yet they can't write their name."

It's fine IMO to state that we have problems: Just don't act like every black person in the US is the way that you say they are.

My father, my uncles, my brother, my male friends, not one single one of them smokes, drinks, or has an obsession with women. who cares about the music? Just because I like a certain type of music doesn't mean I don't get good grades (which I do). I have many many friends who listen to rap music and are A and B students. We're not all like that.

Thats deep, and sort of harsh. But I all have to say is that the very first people were found in Africa. We are all one, you cannont say black people don't want to be educated because they do. It is just that half them don't have the opportunity to get an education. Do you mean to tell me that the seven years I spent in South Africa, that the people that live in the ghetto didn't want an education. I personally know alot of them did, but couldn't because of so many factors that played in. I just wish people like you could see that black is beautiful, the greastest writers, and poets are African-Americans. I am proud to be a black young women, and I understand that sometimes caucasian's feel like black people get all the attention and stuff. But maybe white people should stop trying to act black because we are all what we are. We are all a certain color for a reason, and black is not just an attuide, it is rich culture, with beautiful, and educated people. We are equal, god created all men equal. I am sorry you feel the way you feel about blacks, but thats what makes us different, we are all intituled to our own opinions.

Peace

that reply was to spydertennis ... I am not saying every black person is that like, because alot are not. But I just feel like white people always think black people don't want to get an education.

"I'm not discriminating or anything, I'm totally generalizing, but its an adept generalization that encompasses most of the black population."

Not to be rude or anything, but how could you possibly claim to know that? At best you can say something to the effect of "most of the black people that I've come into contact with in my life" plus maybe some people you've seen on TV or talked to on the Internet, but that's still only a very tiny fragment of the black population of the United States. For you to claim that you're making an "adept generalization" is ridiculous. I won't question that that's the image of black people that you've seen- for all I know, it could turn out to be completely true- but extending that description to the black population at large is simply a logical fallacy.

u guys must be white conservative people who have never lived in bad poor towns. dude, im telling u if black ppl live in safe and caring communities like many whites do, there will be no problems that you guys are describing.
tell me that black ppl dont want to receive education when u experience life at harlem. its not that black ppl dont want to receive education, its that their surroundings are so harsh its hard to get education.

Okay ; come at me after I say this...but after i read the first 3 sentences, I stopped reading your "essay". How dare you generalize the black race. I don't know who you THINK you are ; but there are plenty of black people that defy the stereotypes you portray.

People like you are the reason why black people still fail to succeed. Instead of whining about why we're NOT doing well ... get up off your ass, and DO something. I don't know what bad experience you had to cause you to write this ; but really ... you need help. i suggest you preface all your comments about black people with "some" - because I know plenty of black intellectuals that could teach you a thing or two.

Are you talking about me??

jf215, read the entire post

*Ah, I'll add some insights as well. For blacks living in the US, it seems the stereotype is becoming a culture, and most of the kids are falling into it - as if they are falling into their niche. With the stereotype of how blacks are - and perhaps should be - would not any young black be somewhat compelled to follow it? Regarding the harsh lives blacks have to face, I doubt this plays a lare role; I who came to the US from India with my mom feel situation is much more troublesome for us, yet the stereotype is that we succeed.

Jeez, ok you're right I don't know the entire black population in the United States, but neither do you! I do know the ones I've come in contact with, with a few notable exceptions, are as I described. And I'm talking about the general black person, not the smart one who cares about his life. In my experience black people try to act "black" so they can be cool, and so do many other races. Being "black" is just so wrong, but I guess if it works for you then ok.

You know what...I'd normally get mad at stuff like this...but then I realized that most of the people that are making these generalizations (not going to point fingers) actually don't know very much about our race and are making generalizations based off of TV and the few black people they see on a day-to-day basis...I can make PLENTY of negative blanket statements about whites, hispanics, asians, etc. based on what I see daily but I won't because I know there are millions of people I DON'T know...and it's funny how I go to a school that's 98% black and seldomly notice ANY of those stereotypes...you need to get out more often and broaden your horizons...

and spydertennis...your comments are coming off as very degrading and ignorant...you say you're not being discriminatory...but you ARE...

Wow, I have lost all respect for the two first posters. That is totally disgusting for you guys to say.

Join the KKK!

Why don't you guys realize that the reason why there are problems in the black community are because of people like you.

"I wish I could instill the kind of motivation I have to other people." This is so great that you dream of helping the black people who are underpriveledged. Instead of being a racist and generalizing a whole race, DO SOMETHING!

O.o Killaerone, some of them really don't really care. Uuuhhh I can't join the KKK because they don't accept me --; as part of their group ANYWAY and also I'm not saying all African American don't really care. Some them some don't.

Wow... this thread will soon get out of control.

I can't believe some of the things posted above... just disappointing.

[Shrugs] Yea...

The passage was just a generalization to get a point across, don't read too much into it
