Are there any poor kids on this site? poor= $40,000 income or under
My impression is that most people here belong to the middle/ upper-middle class.

I'm poor. My father is a factory worker and my mother a secretary. I'm not asking for pity or anything with this thread... I was just curious where the other poor kids on this site are. And I perfectly know that being "poor" in Western nations does not even compare to being "poor" in the Third World.

yup yup.. my parents combined make less than 25k and they support the six of us.. we're VERY frugal ... and one of us is in college. It sucks to be poor, but the truth is.. I'm not very bothered by it because although I don't get everything I want, I'm still very fortunate.. I have my intelligence and that's something u can't buy.

O.O Well at least your parents have better jobs than mine. >/ My dad is a carpenter and my mom is a housewife. :P Not a desperate housewife so don't even go there. xDD! [Is hyper and weird at the moment]

Lots of kids here are poor or parents refuse or cannot contribute or there are 4 other sibs in college. Don't feel alone. Remember that rich parents are really up on and helpful with the advice on costs and loans and all the factoring that you might need help with. Come to CC for any help involving money. Many, many wealthy parents here were poor students just a few decades ago. Many kids who started with nothing get help from contributions from wealthy parents...........they like to help.

While I'm technically in the $30K income range, my parents saved up for downpayment for an apartment a couple years after they came to America, so the apartments pay themselves off (more or less). But yes, it's not that much fun, but I've done the best I can and there's nothing else to do.

My dad's a farmer and my mom's a kindergarten teacher. Though we are usually above the 40k mark you mentioned (depending on milk and tobacco markets), I know how the strapped for cash thing feels!

We're POOOOR! LOL. But, you know what they say:

If you don't pay your mortgage, they take your house.
If you don't pay your car title, they take your car.
If you don't pay your college loans, they... wait, they CAN'T take your education! :D

If you don't pay your mortgage, they take your house.
If you don't pay your car title, they take your car.
If you don't pay your college loans, they... wait, they CAN'T take your education! "

i will keep this in mind... first time i've heard that!

now a question- is merit> than financial aid?
