Calling all writers, scientists, or just plain science lovers on HSL!

Hello my fellow CC-ers. Metallika here, with some (hopefully) exciting news for all of you.

So, my dear friend big dreamer and I began medical clubs at our individual schools earlier this year. As one of our projects, we were hoping to create a type of "science magazine" to appeal to younger scientist, you know?

We do wish to take this project on a broader level (the medical club idea, too, for any of you who may be interested in that), and hopefully even publish this magazine/journal online, eventually.

We are welcoming any CCers who may be interested in providing their writing skills, funny scientific anecdotes, or other science experiences to our journal. Everybody who contributes will be credited, of course.

Also, if you participated in any prominent science program (summer, internship, or otherwise), won a well-known award (any Intel STS people here?), or just scored or placed awesomely on one of those tricky science competitions (Ah, dear old USABO. Where would we be without you?), we'd be ecstatic to interview you guys. This would include asking a little bit about yourself, how you got into science, what motivated you to go so far, etc.

Heck, if you haven't done any of the above (like the other 99% of us), but have had some interesting life experiences because of science, join us!

We are welcoming any and all ideas/comments/concerns. However, I must ask for the negative comments to be kept to a minimum. Help, don't hurt, kay peeps?

ooh me me me,
i did lotsa competitions and got research and scholarships and all sorts of stuff,
but shouldn’t your contributors be from your school

I wudn’t mind helping you out…PM me.

^_^: No, we’re more concentrated on getting this off to a good start than keeping it in the club. PM me with some details and we’ll talk!

I have a reasonably decent essay about how I got into neuroscience that I wrote for a supplement that I could tweak/expand and possibly send you. This is not a promise, of course.

That’d be great, and very much appreciated. We’re not in a great hurry right now, anyways, so take your time.

Yes, we do have some contributors fom our respective schools, but (as in typical CC overachievin’ fashion ;)), but we thought that it would be cool to have an organized national science/medicine club with a monthly newsletter that teens operate on their own. We are eager to hear from anybody with some interest! We appreciate your feedback ira242, wombatsoup, and ^_^!

Sounds like an interesting idea. Keep me updated! I’ve had some interesting experiences with the sciences.

^Sure thing! We will:) Would you be interested in contributing to the newletter or even starting a chapter of our club @ your school?

I could try contributing to the newsletter! I’m pretty busy right now - in fact, pretty solidly through March - but I could probably take some time out for this. It’ll probably take time to get this started, too, by which type hopefully my schedule will have cleared up.

And I’m a senior, so I really can’t start a chapter at school by this point.

Cool! We are glad to have any fellow CC-ers help us out:) That’s fine, if you know anybody from your school who would maybe interested, please let us know!

This school year is sooooo busy, best wishes to you:)

I’ll try to attribute to this. Let me know what I can do:)

Sure thing! Thanks for everybody’s interest!

I would like to help. I run the Health Awareness club in our school (health awareness + researching diseases. It was sort of like a Pre Med Club then we changed it to raising awareness while doing research.)

I can definitely contribute after Febuary, after my midterms. I have classes only every second day except for two classes. WIth this freedom, I wouldn’t mind expanding my interests in science.

PM me if you wish.

I want to help!!! I love science!!! (esp chemistry!!). Please let me be a part of this project PLEASSSSEEEEE!!! PM me!!

I’m a writer. PM me. I would LOVE to help.

OK, I just did! Glad to have you on board :)

Definitely interested in this.

I’m probably lacking anything of value as of right now, but most likely, I will be getting an internship and some experience under my belt this summer.

Please keep us updated!

I’m not sure how much I’ll be able to contribute, but I am interested in the idea.

At the very least, I would like a link to this website and see how it lays out and see the project and its information. It’s a nice idea.

Well, we are in the process of creating the website as we speak. If any of you want to sheerly just write an objective, informative article on something that interests you in the science world, by all means do that if you have no “special experiences”! You could even write opinionated articles slandering (lol, not extremist or anything) or praising certain work done in a certain field. For instance, I am a huge gearhead, so plan to write about changing automobile landscapes (technology-wise) and about inventions (another passion of mine). As soon as the site is finished we shall let you guys know! We appreciate your interest :)

Just PMed both of you guys!
