Are Asian Indians minorities???
I do not think they are accepting people based on ethnicity or minority status, in fact that is illegal at California UCs. They are reaching out to qualified students who have been accepted and are in the top 30%, OR are Regents/Chancellor scholars OR have been accepted and happen to be in an under-represented group. In other words, you need to be accepted based on UCSD standards and then they might call to try to personalize it and sway these top kids to accept UCSD vrs other schools they have likely been accepted to.
@RALdadWhat do you mean by underrepresented groups?
@harmansingh I don’t have a specific definition of what UCSD defines as “underrepresented students”. I am just reading from the link posted in the first post. It reads in part:
“In March, the Office of Admissions will host a series of critical phone calling campaigns to increase the yield of admitted students from targeted populations, including Regents Scholars, Chancellor’s Associate Scholars, historically underrepresented students, and the top 30% of admits based on their academic profile”
Asian Indians are not underrepresented.
And while affirmative action is illegal, UCSD is clearly using statistics like “underrepresented students”, aka URMs, to admit students. Semantics aside, they are practicing a form of affirmative action.
Has anyone gotten a call yet who is not considered a minority??
Anyone get a call today?
@greatlake yes.
Are they releasing by regions? Anyone in midwest got a phone call?

@uclabound1 Congrats!! Do you live in the midwest?
@gsants I live in the golden state of California
@uclabound1 hahahaha Alright thanks anyways
For all those who get accepted, it would be great if you could put where you’re from, what you’re majoring in, and if you are considered an ethnic minority. Only if you’re comfortable sharing, of course. I just want to get a better idea of how decisions are being released
I guess I’ll start
