Calling Campaign 2015

@younglookingmom‌, they called our home phone, but my son’s friend got called on his cell phone. So I think they call the number that was listed on the application as the main number.

Thank you. I just text my son asking what number he provided. I don’t see any unknown numbers in my home phone’s miss call list (during night time). A nervous mom hanging here…

@younglookingmom, I read somewhere that not all who get admitted get a call. There are too many calls to be made and too few staff. UCSD sent out a letter to all staff, faculty, and students asking them to participate in the calling campaign, but it is voluntary. So who knows how many are participating and I doubt they can make all of those phone calls. So don’t be nervous. The wait is almost over. We don’t even know if our son is in. We just made that assumption because we have a missed call from an (858) are code.

@Arriba Thank you for calming me down! Just talked to my son and he is not nervous at all, and just like you said , his response was like not every admitted would get the call.

Got the call last night at around 7:00 pm!
The number was an 858 area code and the caller id said “University of CA…”
She said I was accepted and that I was chosen as a Regents Scholar.
Stats:
ACT: 35
SAT: 2150
Lots of APs and stuff
Lots of extracurriculars and clubs

Good luck to everyone (:

My older son went through this two years ago. We got a call from UCSD but my son was not home so they just said they would call back. We never got a call back. We didn’t find out until the decisions were announced on the website. Acceptance letter on the website did not mention Regent scholar but we found out on the Financial aid tab information. FYI, if you are considering UCSD after being accepted, apply for housing as soon as the option becomes on your web portal. One factor in housing selection (single, double, triple etc) is when the student signs up. No commitment at this point but the date is a factor when the housing folks assign rooms. We found out during summer orientation and some the kids did not sign up until they committed to UCSD. My son signed up for housing two days after getting accepted and he got his choice, single.

@jjcollege, thank you for the advice!

If the calling process is, in fact, done by major, have any economics majors (non URM) been accepted via telephone as of yet?

@kitkatcoma‌ Not yet, I’m still waiting. In state econ major!

any english/lit majors?

Any Physical Science or Mechanical Engineering majors?

Any Electrical Engineering majors get called??

@kitkatcoma same, i’m an in state non urm econ major too

A better question might be any calls at all today?

Have any Mathematics majors been called (in state…)?

I think they’re calling in alphabetical order by major.

@tabletop12 The same situation here (in state), as well! Fingers crossed for the both of us - we Econ majors have to stick together!

@LesPronoms I just got a call today! I was asleep so i couldn’t pick it up, but when I called back, it went to the voicemail of a director of student transfers or something! Does this mean the ever-so-elusive regents call!?!?! :open_mouth:

Haven’t seen any computer science people getting called on here. Anyone know of any?
