Hi everyone . I haven't been on this site for quite some time but I decided to check it out because this is usually the most exciting time of the year. I'm an International student (freshman) and when I was in your situation last year somebody suggested calling DHL to check if there was a package coming my way. I went to the nearest office only to find out that nothing had been sent to me. A few days later I received my admission letter to MIT with a totally different mailing service.. So don't lose hope guys especially for international students. I think DHL is expensive for international destinations and they always prefer cheaper alternatives.

As a former employee let me explain.

All these companies like DHL, FedEx, UPS, TCS cooperate with each other. And each of these companies has a strong hold, for eg FedEx/DHL rule in Europe/US & TCS rules in India/Pakistan. So if I give a package from the UAE for the US to TCS they simply forward the package to DHL (mainly coz they dont enough packages for an entire flight) and DHL does the same thing if they were to get a package destined for India/Pakistan.

So in short 'calling' method is not 100% accurate, and its better to wait it out ....... hopefully for the good news :D

sheesh I got so bewildered when I called DHL and the lady on the phone said nothing from MIT's bound for Singapore at all! No wonder... guess it's probably FedEx or some other courier service being used for internationals...

At first I called DHL Thailand, but they said they had no record of any package coming to me. So I tried calling DHL USA, and guess what... OMG I still can't believe it!

I have a package!!!

My heart stopped beating for a second when the man on the other end of the line read my name and address. He gave me my tracking number, and Yes! I was really accepted!

The number for DHL USA is 1-800-225-5345. If you don't know which number to press after that, just hold until it transfers you to a customer service operator. Good luck! :)

After calling DHL Thailand and being notified that they had no record of my package, I was so sure of being rejected that I felt tired (emotionally) and slept 4 hours straight. Lucky my parents suggested that I call DHL USA to confirm... or else I would be depressed the whole weekend. But I did experience the full pang of being rejected.

A few days from now, many of you will hear the good news you're waiting, but many of you won't. For those of you who don't make it, I know that telling you to not feel bad is meaningless, but after a few days, try to get on with your life. Do have hope. Life does not end with MIT. Many opportunities await you. Who knows, those opportunities might not come if you were admitted. You may realize later in life that not getting to go to MIT might have been the best path.

I'll post my stats later when I've received the package, which should arrive Wednesday. A total of three packages are on its way to Thailand; I wonder who will get the other two?

WOW a DHL guy just came and delivered a big intl consignment addressed to me... I mean seriously... but it was not from MIT :D. It was kinda surreal to get it NOW of all times.

Oh, btw I asked the delivery guy if it was possible to find out if another package was registered in my name, and he said "no, we have a policy against it. you'll need the tracking number."
