I would appreciate any feedback/predictions (and blessings!)
I sent my app out yesterday, paid for it today. I am just a little worried, with the competition so stiff. Idk if its a justified fear, but I am afraid Animal Science is super competitive b/c of the pre-vet comp. Andd if it is going to hurt me being a NYS resident. :-/ any insight?

also, (for anyone who watched the Office tonight)
I am especially worried with Dwight applying this year as well. Steeeep competition ;)

What is your race? What is your class rank? I think your scores are borderline or a little bit below average. The animal science major is actually pretty competitive as you noted. It's good that you do have previous experience with horses though. I think CALS do favor NYS residents, but students from NY in general are more qualified than students from other states. Overall, I think you do have a shot.

Isn't that a bit of a generalization?

And vitaebellaa, I think you have pretty decent chances at getting in. You have serious animal experience and great credentials and Cornell, of course, is huge on having their students be great fits for their specific colleges - I'd say you are a fit for CALS.

In complete disagreement.

It is a generalization, but one that seems to be true for the most part...LI public schools are some of the best in the country, and very competitive since most people are well-off and go to college...out of my HS class of about 200, only 3 students didn't go on to college. Not that there aren't hundreds of thousands of very qualified students from other states :)

I think you have a good shot. A 104 weighted gpa sounds pretty good, plus your animals EC's.

i think you have a good chance as well.
are you male or female..and what is your race?

I am a caucasian female. My school does not rank. I am in the top 5%,but my schools reports by quintiles, so CU will not see that.

In regards to "students from NY in general are more qualified than students from other states", I would agree that NY (especially Long Island) is a competitive area as the pool seems to be "well" qualified, but I would definately not say that NYS residents are the "most" qualified. I come from a very competitive public high school and my area is particular is competitive. But I am hoping it is not just a coincidence that a large amount of CALS students are from LI.

thank you everyone for responding :)

vitaebellaa, what HS do you go to?

But I think in NYS helps (esp. for CALS) .... if you look at the statistics...
But then again, I might be wrong....

more NYS get in because more NYS apply.

yeah, but its like 30+ % NYS in Cornell... And I doubt that 30+% of the applicants are from NYS

I'm sure a lot of us intelligent NY'ers are drawn in by the fact that we can get a discounted tuition (CALS, ILR, HumEc) at an Ivy league institution...therefore while NY residents may not necessarily be more qualified, there's probably a lot of NYers applying and more choosing to attend, for that reason.
