CALS Environmental Engineering Admissions & Job Opportunities

Yeah I have a tendency to do that lol.

Thanks for the feedback!

@HereToTransferr As evident from my ECs, my main passion is running. However, that doesn’t really correlate with CALS. What I do have is a very strong interest in the environment and environmental engineering as demonstrated by my nature tours and environmental engineering research. Would drawing on my nature tours and EE research be good ways to show how I’m a great fit for the EE major at CALS? I also have a plan of researching water treatment with a CALS professor and would also like to double major in AEM since I have a plan of developing a water treatment company and becoming a leader in my field through doing this.

Bump

Anyone have any advice on this essay topic for my CALS supplement?

Also, does anyone have any say on Cornell Engineering vs Cornell CALS? I definitely am applying for the environmental engineering major at Cornell, but I’m not 100% sure which one I should apply to. I’m more tempted by CALS since I’m in-state and can receive some in-state scholarships, but I also like how I have some leniency in CoE since I don’t declare a major until sophomore year I believe.

I confess that I do not know the details about CALS. (Son is in CoE now, and I graduated from CAS a long time ago.). But, here are my thoughts, as a parent.

You are correct that you don’t have to declare a major in CoE until sophomore year. However, if you are leaning toward Environmental Engineering and CALS offers that major, I would apply to CALS. You should be able to switch majors within CALS or to another Cornell school relatively easily in the first year (or two), if you decide against Env Eng once you get there. Lots of my friends switched schools and majors when I was at Cornell. It is a little harder to switch into CoE after first year, but you might be able to if you could catch up on some required courses in summer school.

If you are unsure, I would start in CALS to get the in-state discounted tuition for at least one semester!

Good luck!

Thanks so much!
