CALS interview?

I applied for Cornell CALS ED and they supposedly don't have interviews...but I just got an email from an Alumni asking to schedule a time for an interview. Does anyone know what this is about?

The alumnus is not asking for an interview, but an information session. It’s your chance to ask your questions about Cornell and find out more about Cornell, and for you to add additional information that may not appear in your application.

Also, don’t take this as sign of your admissions chances. Not everyone gets this opportunity because there just aren’t enough alumni to do it (though about 9,000 volunteer to do it). Though the alum will file a report that you met with them.

Will the interview have any effect on my application? Or is it just an opportunity to find out more? Thanks :)

In most cases it wont affect you. You’ll be asking most of the questions.

What if you were offered an alumni interview and you are not applying to the hotel school? Does it look bad if I don’t go to an “info session?”

the alumni session doesn’t actually affect you in anyway EXCEPT there is a possible chance that the person interviewing you feels that you have shown a strong positive personality and character will put in a word to the admissions

For hotel and for the architecture you are required to have an interview, usually administered by an alumnus. So don’t turn this down.

The schools that don’t require an interview ask alumni to meet students through an information session. You shouldn’t turn this down either, as it does provide an opportunity to show your interest in Cornell and also be able to put forth some additional information, as the alumnus does file a report. You won’t be penalized for not being offered this opportunity. However, if you are presented with the opportunity and turn it down, that is also noted.

cornellpezra hit the nail on the head exactly what they said is correct
