Hello, I am interested in applying to the CALS program at Cornell. However, when I search the site there are no specific numbers given such as median SAT and ACT scores which I want to know. I was wondering, does the CALS school want the same score as the other schools of Cornell, or is it higher or lower? Thanks!

CALS is not a program, but a College (of Agriculture of Life Sciencies.) when you apply to CALS, you need to apply to a specific major, and you are accepted to that major. the amount of competition in some majors is greater than it is in others, but it has the same general high standards as the rest of the university.

hi guys,

i have a question about applying to CALS.
If im an out of state student, and i want to major in biology, should i apply to CALS or CAS?
I like CALS better, but my family is not rich and definitely cannot afford to pay a full $50,000 tuition ( we make less than $70,000/yr). If i apply to CALS i wont be able to get an substantial scholarship as appose to CAS, which is private and would be able to give me scholarships/financial aid. Is this correct? I also heard, that CAS is much more difficult to get it.

Thanks!

a) CAS and CALS are both private
b) They both provide the same amount of financial aid to out of state students.
c) With 70k you can expect to pay around 17k a year in parental contributions, and Cornell will cover the rest in grants and work study.
d) The rumor that CAS is “more difficult to get into” is spurious at best. CALS is hard to get into if you cannot convince the adcom you want to be there. CAS might just be more numbers-centric in comparison to a more holistic CALS.
