I'm a rising senior who is contemplating applying to CALS as a biology major. I've taken SAT II's in World History (770), U.S. History (800), and Math IIC (770). In the admission's for CALS it says that SAT II's aren't required but that if you do submit them then math AND science are recomended. I have not taken any science SAT II's and am wondering if this will really matter much in admissions.

It says "SAT Subject Tests recommended in a science and in Mathematics".

This can be interpreted in many ways...

1.) The SAT II's aren't required, but if you wish to take them then it is recommended that you take them in science and math.

2.) The SAT II's are required and it is recommended that you take them in math and science.

Unfortunetly, the latter of the interpretations is correct the SAT Subject Tests are actually required. I got the same impression that you did by reading what the application said, however I confirmed that they are required by looking at collegeboard.com.

So now that it is all straight that you must submit the SAT II's, then I would recommend taking one in biology, so that you have a science as well as the subject in which you wish to major.

Good Luck...

i got an email from CALS they said that ppl without SAT II are also admitted at the same rate. However they recommend taking the SAT II that gives them a better insight into ure academic capabilities

Hi Kenone,
I am familar with your post about the fascinating biochem program at Penn, and I would suggest taking a science SAT II if you have a strong interest in crafting your application(s) with a strong science focus. Just a thought. Congratulations on your terrific scores!
