My daughter was rejected by Cornell, but today received an e-mail from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences offering her a chance to transfer to Cornell if she takes appropriate classes and maintains a "B" average. They wrote, "The Selection Committee appreciated the talent and potential reflected in your application and is truly looking forward to you joining CALS in 2015."

I expect that she will be happy at her college, and will choose to stay. However, it is a real confidence boost for her that she was already contacted on an option "offered to a select number of first-year applicants to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS)." This has been a frustrating week, but this is a ray of sunshine.

Have any of you veterans known of students who took advantage of this opportunity? We were truly surprised by this.
