Does it matter which CalSO dates you attend? Does attending a late one really impact you THAT MUCH? I could try to attend the June 2-3 one, but it's cutting close to graduation. The 5-6 one I'm not sure about...I know I can attend the 11-12 one for sure, but would attending that one vs the earlier ones really hinder me from picking popular classes? There are a total of 9 sessions and the 11-12 one is the third.

It depends on which classes you need. Some classes fill up really fast, others will still have seats later.

The way registration works here is in phases… during Phase 1 (what you’ll do at CalSO) you get up to 10 credits. This should let everyone get the classes they need/want most. After everyone’s completed Phase 1 and gotten their first couple of classes, it’s time for Phase 2. Phase 2 still has registration dates, again determined by seniority, and you can add up to 16 credits or something. After everyone’s done Phase 2, it becomes the adjustment period, which is basically a free-for-all where you can add as you please.

Anyways, moral of that story is that the phase system kinda helps you get the classes you need. Sometimes if you get a really late date, you won’t be able to get a popular class during phase 1, but that’ll depend on the department/professor. Sometimes you can get in anyways, if you pick a really unpopular (early/late) discussion section for a class… that’ll let you jump past the lecture/overall waitlist if a seat in the section opens up. But that’s only if the class has sections. :P

tl;dr: Earlier is better, but it shouldn’t ruin your life too much.
