<p>Why isn't Caltech called CIT? Or why isn't MIT called Masstech?</p>

<p>lol... CIT is too remniscient of camp counselors back in teh day, and Masstech sounds like you're inventing huge technology, not attending a school</p>

<p>Because MIT sounds better than MassTech and CalTech sounds better than CIT. Simple as that. Would you rather have a clunky, awkward nickname or one that flows well and rolls off the tongue?</p>
