<p>I'm just an applicant, but IMHO, the box should be treated with just as much respect as all the other essay questions. Also, it just says that what you put in should be "interesting" to you, which I interpret to mean that you should put in whatever you feel best conveys yourself, whether or not it's directly related to math. Caltech makes it clear on the web site that they're looking for math- & science-oriented people, but I don't think your app would be made stronger if you artificially try to mold it into what you think they want to see.</p>
